Ulev Posted November 19, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, Some time ago I bought a 50mm Summicron DR. Unfortunately it came without the spectacles so I'd love to buy them. I understand different versions excist but I can hardly find any info that can help me purchasing the right one. My lens is a 1958 one and it's a satin chrome version. The only info I did found was that you have spectacles with the Leitz logo and they are meant to be used on the bright chrome lenses and those without a logo are meant for satin chrome lenses !? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you Rgds Ulev
Advertisement Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Hi Ulev, Take a look here 50mm Summicron DR - which spectacles will fit ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cbretteville Posted November 19, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 19, 2010 Ulev, According to Steve Gandy you can fit an older set of DR eyes on a newer lens, but not the other way around. The oldest are the ones with the large Leitz condenser logo. have a look at the image in the sencond to last image on the page I linked to and the description on the paragraph below it. The text also helps you identify the version of the DR you have. Carl
luigi bertolotti Posted November 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 19, 2010 I may be wrong, but the Summicron 50 DR have the same kind of chrome finishing... even if from the first to the second version there is a difference in the knurling of the focus ring. The basic difference is that the first has near focusing to 19", the second to 20" . The second is scaled both in meters and feet, the first in feet OR meters but with the reproduction ratios engraved; afaik the goggle unit of the first has the typical "lens/condenser" symbol engraved, while the 2nd has simply the Leitz Wetzlar name: there is a small difference also in the ball bearing that couples to the goggle unit... but I seem that the first type of goggles can fit the second. To have a DR without the goggle is someway a pity... but the search can be difficult: alternatively, for using, you can setup the combo I use on my M8 (on which the DR cannot be mounted) : I unscrew the lens head and mount it onto the SOMKY device (a goggle unit that has exactly the same function of the DR's one), through the intermediate UOORF ring : both SOMKY and UOORF are easy to find. Most of the pictures of my gear I posted here (in the historical section, typically...) have been taken with this combo.
Ulev Posted November 19, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted November 19, 2010 Thank you Carl, Thank you Luigi, My Summicron DR has a dual scale, feet and m. It goes up to 21" ( not 19 or 20) but despite this I can assume it's a second version. The spectacles that "should" go with that are the ones with a simplified logo. So I might be in luck ad buy/try them. And yes, a shame it came without the spectacles. I just love this lens. Built quality and feel. Keep you posted ! Thanks Rgds Ulev
luigi bertolotti Posted November 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 19, 2010 I wrote that "search could be difficult"... but have a look HERE... : Newoldcamera - Scheda prodotto I don't know if you understand Italian... this shop has FOUR at the moment ! (I linked a fine one...with case, 2nd version !) : from its main menu select "accessori" "Leica M" "Occhialini"... He is a very good and trustable dealer, the best in Italy, I think. marduk Posted December 2, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ulev, I'm glad you have found them. Just in case: and older set of DR eyes may not fit the newer lens. I tried but the ball bearing did not match in my case. More info here.
Ulev Posted December 7, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted December 7, 2010 Thank God, the set I bought matches my DR lens. I just have to remove the small "pin" in order to use them on my M6ttl. ( which is screwed AND glued). Still looking for a proper screwdriver to limit the"damnage". Rgds Ulev Ulev,I'm glad you have found them.
