wlaidlaw Posted November 15, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted November 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know Morgan is a one man band but I ordered and paid for a slate (dark) blue kid M9 kit with grip cover as well, on the 14th of October. No sign of it and no response to two emails. Anyone else been receiving any kits over this period. Â Wilson
Advertisement Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Hi wlaidlaw, Take a look here Cameraleather - Slow delivery and no communications. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
doubice Posted November 16, 2010 Share #2  Posted November 16, 2010 Wilson,  I ordered a Levant Black M8 kit and two VH Black Leatherette kits for a Contax 139 from Morgan, on October 24th. I had no communication from him, except a PayPal payment confrmation. The package arrived in about 10 days, shipped to Washington State, from New Hampshire (or was it Maine?) - in any case across the whole continent.  My understanding is that Morgan has nothing 'in stock' rather, he cuts the kits as the orders come in. It is quite possible that he does not have the dark blue kid leather that you ordered in stock.  He is indeed under an email avalanche - this link is from his page:  Cameraleather email notice  Still - no excuse for not communicating if there is a delay in shipping or lack of stock....  Best,  Jan
wlaidlaw Posted November 16, 2010 Author Share #3 Â Posted November 16, 2010 Jan, Â Thanks for the info that Morgan is still in business - I was worried. I received quite quick response pre-sales, asking for the total for an M9 kid kit including the extra square for the hand grip and shipping to Europe, for which, pricing is not on the website. I had read the disclaimer on email. If even 25% of those emails result in a sale averaging say $70, then the business is at the stage, where it needs and can afford at least a part time secretary/email and item dispatch handler. I know from previous experience, that his product is excellent but if customers start having hassle in ordering and communicating, they just will not bother. It is the old adage; it takes years to build up the reputation of an organisation but only weeks to wreck it. Â Wilson
peter_n Posted November 16, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted November 16, 2010 His response time does appear to fluctuate quite a bit. I've always had very quick replies from him but I must have been hitting him when there's been low demand. I've found him great to deal with and the product (Griptac) is excellent. wlaidlaw Posted November 17, 2010 Author Share #5  Posted November 17, 2010 Response from Morgan today with apologies for delay and advice that my leather has been posted, so hopefully if Global Express and UPS (U'r Parcel Stolen - sir) do their stuff, I should have the kit in a few days. Now the next decision is do I fit it myself or get my local friendly camera repairer to do a 100% perfect job for me for around £30. Leather and wood are not my thing. I would much rather do a gearbox rebuild on one of my old cars than play with fiddly bits of leather, which will stick to my fingers but not the camera.  Wilson

I've have ordered four or five covers for different project cameras and binoculars, some were quick and some were not so quick. I have the brown kid leather on my M2. It's a great surface.  For what your getting, 3 to 4 weeks isn't that long a time. The truth of the matter is there's no other place in the world you can get a Blue Leather Cover for your M9. Would a response to the 2 emails sent have been nice? Probably, but if he is receiving 1000 emails a day it would be hard to find 1, especially if it had a non-descriptive subject line like "M9 Cover". I think a search in this forum before a post would have been fairer to him. I don't think you would have found anything that said "I never got what I ordered." although I am sure you would have found people who had waited longer and shorter that you did.  He's not B&H.  Jay

Communications in the past have been OK. Morgan knew I wanted the kit by a particular time, which may now be missed dependant on speed of post. He advised when I ordered that he had the new darker slate blue kid in stock. I was worried that in this day and age of multiple company failures, that he had gone out of business, in which case I would have needed to file a claim with Paypal. I did head up my messages with an order date and showed Paypal settlement reference. I am certain that a part time secretary to deal with mail and email, would earn her crust many times over in increased sales, especially repeat sales from customers impressed with efficiency. Having visited Vermont last year and stayed in Burlington, I found everyone there, apart from Dollar Rent-a-car, efficient (and very courteous as well).  Wilson
Jaybob Posted November 17, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted November 17, 2010 Wilson, Â No worries my friend. I prefer efficient as well. Waiting is never fun. Â Just sticking up for a fellow Vermonster. doubice Posted November 18, 2010 Share #9  Posted November 18, 2010  .....VERMONT!  As I am originally from the Green Mountain State......  Jay  I profusely appologize for not spending the time to correctly identify Morgan's home state..  Having lived in Montreal for 10 years I visited the 'Green Mountain State' many times! I even got roughed up in a local pub in Abercorn (just across the border from Quebec), for claiming that my accent was from Madagascar. Unfortunately the local pub patrons had no idea where or what Madagascar was and took their drunken ire out on my jaw. An M3 that I caried everywhere in those days got drenched in Molson, but lived happily ever after.  My accent was actually Czech but I don't think that I would have fared any better had I told the truth.....  Best,  Jan

wlaidlaw Posted November 24, 2010 Author Share #11  Posted November 24, 2010 Well here is the final result. Certainly nobody could accuse it of being garish. I suspect it will grow on me more slowly than the Rollei black magic leather kit on my chrome M8, which was an immediate hit. I actually think the leathers might have been better the other way round - the Rollei black magic pebbled finish leather on the grey M9 and the slate blue on the chrome M8, where there would have been more of a contrast between the leather and the metal.  Wilson Welcome, dear visitor! Is there anybody who can help me?  Christoph  Morgan is not good on email responses. I know he says he is receiving large volumes of email each day but that would indicate an active business, which is letting admin get on top of it. Whereas his product is great, people will soon lose patience with him, if he is not responding to emails and following up on missing items or late dispatches and then it will not matter how good his product is. Folks will just not put up with the hassle of dealing with him. I do hope he gets a proper handle on this soon. As I posted above, it is high time he had at least a part time secretary/administrator. Morgan is someone, where I am very keen for him to stay in business, producing these great leather kits but he must get his business act together.  Wilson

balle Posted December 13, 2010 Share #15 Â Posted December 13, 2010 Dear Peter, Â Thank you for the number. I tied more than once to speak with Morgan, but on the other end of the line there was only his anwering machine. So I asked to contact me by phone or email...without any success so far :-( Â Â Christoph
peter_n Posted December 14, 2010 Share #16 Â Posted December 14, 2010 Well Christoph as I said above in #4 his response time does appear to fluctuate quite a bit. Over on the RFF forum there's more than one thread about Morgan and delays . If it's any consolation he ultimately responds and delivers. Not the greatest way to run a business I know, but he is a nice guy and the kits are great.

i waited "forever" for the green kid leather kit, and sent a few e-mails . . . total of maybe 6 weeks . . . but i think we are dealing with a true artist here, and i am sure to do more business with Morgan.   SIDE NOTE, for those who did their own recovering . . . how hard is it to remove the old covering? Morgan says to maybe use a hair dryer to heat the old cover then peel it off . . . has anyone actually done that and not melted the internals?? . . . appreciate any feedback (don't want to ruin my Hexar!) . . Unfortunately I haven't received neither the goods nor a reply to my email from September 4th... I do not have Morgan's phone number to ask him where the problem is. Is there anybody who can help me?  Christoph Christoph,  Morgan won't send out kits for recovering the Digilux 2. He insists on the camera being sent to him so that he can recover it for you because the door on the SD card slot is very difficult. I sent mine to him and it took more than 2 months to return although he did a very nice job.  Morgan is probably waiting for your Digilux 2's to arrive and wondering what the hold up is.  Incidentally, I just checked the CameraLeather website and I can't see the Digilux 2 supported anywhere anymore.  Pete. balle Posted December 17, 2010 Share #19  Posted December 17, 2010 Dear Pete,  You are absolutely right, on the CameraLeather website there is no Digilux 2 Kit. * That's why the first thing I did, was asking Morgan by email, if he has kits for this type of camera. * His answer was yes and that normally he does not send out the kits to the owner. But if I want to try it, he would do so. * So I made a quote request for 2 kits (Leatherette Griptac Charcoal Black and Walnut Grain Kid Leather). * Morgan replied prompt "For the Digilux 2, the Griptac kit is $22 and the Walnut kit is $65. Shipping is $3.60." * I agreed and asked asked how to proceed for paying. * Morgan's answer "The invoice will follow in a few minutes. You can pay with any card, or by Paypal" * I paid by Paypal and sent out a copy of the receipt to Morgan. * Morgen's reply "Thank you" That's it.  Sorry for bothering you with those details, but I just want * to know what went wrong here * that Morgan gets again in contact with me * NOT blame anybody   Thanks for your help!
