griffster Posted November 8, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Welcome to the D-Lux 4 / D-Lux 5 (and LX-3/5) Challenge No. 9 For those who are new to the this challenge, photos must be taken with a Leica D-Lux 4/5 or its sister camera the Panasonic DMC LX-3/5. The rules are set out below: The dates for this Challenge No. 9 are as follows: Picture taking: from now until 28th November (3 weeks, to get it going again) Posting: November 29th until December 12th (2 weeks) Voting: December 13th until December 19th (1 week) The subject is: TREES I shall start separate threads for posting and voting so please do NOT post images or vote in this thread or they will be invalidated. Good luck and for newcomers who have these beautiful cameras please have a go! It's completely free, at worst you'll have an enjoyable experience and learn something and at best you could win the Challenge! Go on - Give me your best shot!! D-Lux 4 / D-Lux 5 Challenge Rules: Introduction: The D-Lux 4 / D-Lux 5 Challenge is an occasional competition on the Leica User Forum to celebrate and encourage use of the D-Lux 4/5 and Panasonic LX 3/5. This is a test of the skill of photographers worldwide using the same basic camera and getting the best from it. It is open to all Leica User Forum members who own or have use of these cameras. Shooting theme and period: In order to participate you should shoot no more than 36 exposures (on a trust basis) using a Leica D-Lux 4, a D-Lux 5, a Panasonic LX-3 or a Panasonic LX-5 camera, in line with a notified theme within a defined day period (set by the person setting the theme). Post processing: All images entered must adhere to Leica User Forum posting rules on dimensions and file size. Participants are encouraged to pre-visualise and preset their cameras and enter an image with the minimum of post processing. Extensive post processing (beyond levels and sharpening) is not within the spirit of the competition. It is not banned, but should be declared at time of posting. Ultimately, the best photographer should win, not the most adept post processor. Entering your image: Select your shot that in your view best matches the theme and post it onto a single thread set up for the purpose by the organiser. Please give it a title. The thread will be open for postings ONLY but NOT for voting until a declared date to allow all entries to be posted before voting starts. Your entries are not anonymous - feel free to include a short description of/explanation of your image. Voting: Voting will then be opened. Votes may then be cast on the following basis: Three points for best, two points for second and one point for third, in the format: "Image XXXX - 3 points Image YYYY - 2 points Image ZZZZ - 1 point" You MUST cast three votes in total - one or two votes will be regarded as a "spoiled ballot" and not counted in the overall total. Voting runs for two weeks. One vote per member, no voting for your own image. The winner gets the right to set the theme for the next D Lux Challenge. Good luck everyone! drdannn Posted December 11, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 11, 2010 Hi, Are we allowed more than one entry? Thanks for doing the challenge...
farnz Posted December 11, 2010 Share #5 Posted December 11, 2010 The Challenge has always been restricted to a single entry in the past so I guess that it's the same for No. 9. Pete.
carylwithay Posted December 14, 2010 Share #6 Posted December 14, 2010 I have always been troubled by the open voting system on this site. Every other site I know uses anonymous voting. Whether it be one, two or three votes per person. I think that is one of the reasons very few are voting. Surely someone know how to set this up so that you cannot vote for yourself but your vote does not have to be so public and possibly offend a friend. Just my opinion. I certainly never vote in this type of system. Caryl
