an unusual lens hood for Elmar 50mm

Good morning,

I have a really unusual lens hood marked Elmar 5cm very different from the ITOOY. It is made in two parts: a mount to fix on the lens and the hood apart. It seems to be a project to have the same mount for several lenses and different hoods to lock on.

Any idea about a reference name, year of creation, other variations?

I cannot find any information about this reference: 12550 (549 in chrome)

I thought that the ITOOY was replaced by the ITDOO and than in 1963 by the 12585.

Yes, I omit to specify that there is place to fix in the lower mount a series VI filter.

Is it right that these filters are from 1964, as it is said in the Accessory guide (Hove) ?

Sorry... I made a wrong hipotesis... 12550/12549 are depicted in the Wiki section - nothing to do with the divisible hood here quoted: mistery remains... I seem it CAN hold a series filter... and there was a time in which Leitz had tried to standardize the use of series filter, making a number of divisible hoods to hold them (I have the one for Summilux 35). Maybe this was a prototype... very interesting, indeed.

@Michael :

With my yet old Digilux 2 on a tripod, it still works, with the first sensor... for how long?

@Luigi:

I couldn't find 12550 either on Wiki, what is it?

I know the divisible hood for Summilux 35mm, It is 12504, it is current. Is it what you mean?

Probably the one I show is earlier and possible a prototype or a small batch as it is very good finished. It will be interesting to know if there are other hoods for wide-angle and tele-photo.

Here are the 12549 and 12550 (picts from forum's Wiki area - hoods)

And, yes, my hood is a 12504, but I prefer to use the old OLLUX... ;)

BTW... notice that your odd hood is marked "5cm", not "50mm or "50"... and this suggests a rather old age... this makes uneven my hipotesis about the "Series filters" era of Leitz, which occured in times (around mid '60s) in which the focals in cm had been abandoned by long (Elmars 50 from 1958 were marked "5cm", the ones from 1959 were marked "50" , with the new all-capitals lettering)
