Photojazz Posted October 28, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted October 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been duly impressed with how it handles many things. Is it perfect, of course not. But that's ok. I go in with realistic expectations, I am not disappointed. Purists can say, it's only a sheep in wolf's clothing. Elitists can say, it doesn't cost enough to be "all that". Conservatives can say, surely you didn't pay that much for THAT? That's ok too, it's a judgement call, and X1 owners each have their reasons. Â For me, above all, I like how free it makes me feel compared to DSLRs, and I have 3, I carried it into the market the other day on my shoulder, and I don't think one person even noticed I had a camera with me. I didn't shoot with it but I probably could have, and got away clean. (photography is not allowed generally in any retail location) Â The X1 has been an adjustment to shoot, but in the right conditions, it delivers a lot of dynamic range, and a lot of detail I think. So let the purists balk, let the Elitists look down their nose, let the avg person think you squandered good money, but in the end, enjoy the good shots. I plan to. I have a few other photos of my adaptation of the X1 coming, if they ever load... Here it is sitting on RRS Swiss Arca mount on very small Manfrotto 484RC2 with RRS screw Kirk clamp on Gitzo carbon fiber monopod. :-) I usually buy RRS, but I got this little ballhead combo used as part of a dual flash mount setup. I finally disected it and used the small ballhead. Â Also, since I don't have the 350.00 viewfinder, and probably won't get it, I slid in a Nikon D700 hot shoe cover, for a sleak look on top. :-) Â Â

Mr_Jones Posted October 28, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted October 28, 2010 The Image Quality. I think it's almost the only reason to own one, as a D-Lux would be easier to handle but can't deliver the end result.

JeTexas Posted October 28, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted October 28, 2010 1. Is image quality - especially in low light 2. Is having aperture and shutter speed dials, so I can set the camera appropriately instead of clicking endlessly through menus or guessing what turning the dial full of pictograms to a mountain or a fish might mean. Â What I like LEAST is the way the manual focus works. I thought it would get faster and easier with practice, but the rolling thumb wheel is a TERRIBLE design. Â Here's to beautiful IQ. I think it's almost the only reason to own one, as a D-Lux would be easier to handle but can't deliver the end result. I am not sure about that claim. It is a joy and much easier to select lens aperture and shutter speed on the X1. Also, the slightly larger body fits my hands better than a smaller camera. Â Yes it fits hands better, but it would be easier to pocket and carry a smaller camera and that seems to be the point of a compact.

cheewai_m6 Posted October 29, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted October 29, 2010 i have an m6, and i had a c-lux equivelent lumix, lost it in berlin.. so sad. anyway, when looking for a replacement, i SERIOUSLY considered x1. at the time, i couldn't afford it, i shot a few shots with it at the shop and i used my sd card. the photos are beautiful, leica standard for sure. i see no reason why anyone should not get one if it's quality and size they're after. better quality than gf1, EASILY. and x1 with a viewfinder is gorgeous. i want one. Â I'll agree with you at everything iso 800 and above. Â I took some shots on the golf course yesterday for another forum's member to compare, at iso 100, the gf1 and panny was sharper imo. Â For someone shooting in good light or not printing huge, the gf1 equals the x1 so long as the 20mm is mounted. Â since so many people here have many cameras, we really should start an x1 vs the world. This isn't a photo forum, it's a gear forum, so why not? Â I can compare a gf1/20 :x1 :7d with sigma 30 and 15-85 : dlux 3 :iphone (lol) Â would anyone else care to spend sometime seeing and posting untouched (only contrast etc, no sharpening) comparison shots? I sure think that would be an interesting thread.

tom0511 Posted November 3, 2010 Share #13  Posted November 3, 2010 whwile the IQ is great for me it even more the handling: 1) small and light 2) near silent shutter release and simple+classic user interface  Actually even though I sometimes hate the slow AF I love this little camera more than I thought. After 1st day I was close to selling it, today I am sure there is no way I will sell it.

Dannybuoy Posted November 4, 2010 Share #15 Â Posted November 4, 2010 Well apart from the feeling of it in my hands and the gorgeous formfactor. The best thing for me is the image quality. I popped out today for a walk to get rid of the nasty acid indigestion I had! Took my X1 and popped a few photos of a few random things. The sun was low and photos on the screen looked a bit blown out. Never trust that screen! Once opened on LR3 I was stunned. I still can't believe how good this little beauty is. The end results are my favourite things about this camera.
635djimmy Posted November 9, 2010 Share #16 Â Posted November 9, 2010 For me its the Build quality and size, being able to take it around with me, the quality of the pictures. I find the ease of use very good too, I'm experimenting a lot more than I do with my 400D because of the aperture and shutter dials. I love the look of the camera too. In fact, pretty much everything

h00ligan Posted November 11, 2010 Share #20 Â Posted November 11, 2010 that is a very compelling reason.. on the downside, no 1/3 ev steps is a bummer.. possible in certain modes.. but not always easily so.
