rob139 Posted October 23, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everybody, I would like to have some new filters for my 24mm summilux. I found a version VII yellow filter, but I'm wondering whether these filters will fit this lens, because of the particular way the filter is attached on the lens. Between the filter and the lens itself, not screwed on. Do these older filters have a screwthread, are they suited for this lens a well? Does any filter size VII fit? I'm also looking for an ND filter, does anybody know whether these are available in VII size for the summilux? Here's the listed filter: Filter : LEITZ GELBFILTER SERIE VII 1 / (5) - eBay (item 290472052682 end time Nov-04-10 04:34:22 PDT) Thanks, Rob

doubice Posted October 23, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2010 Rob, A Seies VII filter is a Series VII filter, no matter what age or manufacturer. Series filters have no threads and are usually held in place by retaining rings or, fit into lens hoods. I believe the lens hood of your Summilux screws apart - the filter will be held between the two halves. Best, Jan
glenerrolrd Posted October 24, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 24, 2010 The Leica filters fit as I had an old series 7 UVA filter that I use with my 24 summilux .
lars_bergquist Posted October 24, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 24, 2010 49mm filters in slim mounts (with only the rear thread) may often serve. The old man from the Wratten Age
cbretteville Posted October 27, 2010 Share #5 Posted October 27, 2010 For my 35/1.4 Hysterical (pre-asph) I use a non-slim B+W 49mm UV/IR filter (male and female thread) when the lens is on my M8. I put it in the hood reversed, works great. I also have older Leitz Y and UV filters that are 'real' Series VII filtes for when the lens is on a film M. lars_bergquist Posted October 27, 2010 Share #6 Posted October 27, 2010 Yes, it's all a matter of the depth of the mount. In the case of the 35mm Summilux 'Hysterical' which uses the screw-apart 12504 hood, the risk is that if the mount is too deep, you can't screw the front half of the hood fully back. So it might conceivably unscrew of its own volition, dropping both itself and the filter on the ground. Hence my recommendation to use a slim-mount filter. gravastar Posted October 27, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...............................I'm also looking for an ND filter, does anybody know whether these are available in VII size for the summilux? .............. Yes, Series 7 Neutral Density filters suitable for the Summilux 24 are manufactured by B+W. I got mine for the lens from FotoHuppert in germany. You can get them in ND values of: 0.3 2x 1stop 0.6 4x 2 stop 0.9 8x 3 stop 1.2 16x 4 stop 1.8 64x 6 stop 3.0 1024x 10stop Michael Huppert speaks good english and is very helpful. You can obtain his email address etc. by clicking on the "zum shop" button on their home page. If possible get the MRC multi coated scratch resistant ones. They may be a special order and will take a few weeks to get. Bob.
