Rick Posted October 22, 2010 Share #61 Posted October 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) BS, nice explanation but,we don't even know if he just dropped his 50mm and it just doesn't fit the new M9 because it is new and tight. See, we just don't know enough about this because his point wasn't to discuss a product issue. That is your point. Always is. Bill, congratulations! Nicest thing I've read here in at least two posts. Advertisement Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Hi Rick, Take a look here Leica complaint. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest BigSplash Posted October 22, 2010 Share #62 Posted October 22, 2010 Well if this had happened to me and the dealer had sorted it immediately I would not even think of contacting Leica, but I'm pretty sure the dealer did and that is what counts. Jeff Actually from a client viewpoint I agree.. The dealer fixed his clients problem and that is excellent client service as one would expect. The fact that Leica CEO did not phone the OP is perhaps an opportunity missed but not so important IMHO. The issue is what happened to the first M9 ..has that been sold on to someone who has lenses that work on it? Is there an opportunity to learn and feedback as part of a continuous improvement excercise at Solms? Is it the case as has been implied that all that is required is a savy dealer that can adjust the M9 M mount spring as a definitive in the field fix for that 1 in a 10, 000 or 1 in 1 million case? I am as an engineer always keen to improve products and I actually know that this is embedded in Solms mentality. Bottom line is these issues should not happen, and if they do IMHO clients and supplier should work together to identify and fix. Seems that I am on my own here with that belief. UliWer Posted October 22, 2010 Share #63 Posted October 22, 2010 You could even argue that occasional not fitting is a good thing as it indicates that the tolerances are kept tight - i.e. they did not compromise by introducing too much slack in the design. I don't know if this has anything to do with the OP's problem, but from all of my five cameras with M-mount (M3, M2, M6, M8, M9) the mount of the M9 is the tightest. All lenses do fit, but they are not as easily mounted as on all other bodies. I had some problems to loosen an adapter for a lens with screw mount - but it worked in the end (I didn't send the small part of a fingernail I lost in this action to Solms). May be the reason for this is that the camera is just a few weeks old, though I don't recall this experience when the M8 was new. On the other hand all of my lenses - very old, some years old and new - do focus spot on with the M9 (just two old ones with obvious misfocus stay the same). I think I can better focus difficult lenses like the 2/75, the 2/90 or the 3.4/135 with the M9 than I could with the M8. So Ithere may be some justification to assume that stiff mounting and good focussing are related because tolerances in the mount were reduced for the M9. steve70 Posted October 25, 2010 Share #67 Posted October 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think that most of you are missing the point here. When one spends the kind of $$$$$$ on any item, weather be a Leica or a MB sedan, one expects it to be right and in proper working order. I had a bad M9 out of the box, and yes, leica NY replaced it, which is all well and good, but from the posts that I have read re: quite a few defective M9's, the question needs to be askes as to what ever happened to quality control. Dan States Posted October 25, 2010 Share #68 Posted October 25, 2010 By the way, I would like to take this opportunity to announce that all my lenses fit my new MP4 perfectly... Regards, Bill Don't tell us, call the CEO of Leica. He is apparently number 3 in the customer service communication chain. Poor bastard.

Posto 6 Posted October 25, 2010 Share #70 Posted October 25, 2010 Yawn.... How old, and what type was the Summicron in question (hopefully not a DR)? The whole tirade seems a bit pompous, actually. Let's see- my Louis Vuitton belt is not exactly to size, and I expect Mr. Bernard Arnault (Group CEO) to call me and tell me he has personally knocked some heads together. Never mind that the belt is from 1966!

They must have given you an old model. MP5 is the latest and the greatest. Titanium foil shutter, laser based rangefinder and LCD-framelines adapting their position to accomodate for close focusing.
