Chuck68 Posted September 14, 2014 Share #62 Posted September 14, 2014 Also, CCDs (and probably most semiconductors for that matter) are susceptable to gamma ray exposure that can cause small power surges that can fry the transistors. Even flying on an airliner will increase gamma ray exposure since there is less atmosphere to absorb the gamma rays. In fact, this is one reason why all the major digital camera manufacturers ship their cameras by ground/ship rather than by air. Thank you for this morning giggle, total bs from practical perspective, the only reason to ship by ground is cost, we ship a lot of electronic equipment by air, otherwise the lead times would kill us Apple feels the same, otherwise you would get to wait several months for your shiny new iphone Why Apple Sends All iPhones And iPads By Air: It's Cheaper - Forbes

jdlaing Posted September 15, 2014 Share #64 Posted September 15, 2014 My oncologist is a joker. He said, "Remember saying you hope your Leica lasts for your lifetime? Well it probably will!" Stop grumbling Pico. Five years ago my oncologist gave me six months to go. He is gone now and I'm still here. I was left here to keep an eye on you. Anyone have 50,000 on it or more?

glacierparkmagazine Posted September 23, 2014 Share #69 Posted September 23, 2014 I've had an M9 for four years now, almost five. Shutter count is about 83,000 and still going strong (knock on wood). It's been serviced by Leica a couple of times, but they never replaced the shutter. I'm a pro and it's my everyday camera.
Firefly Posted September 24, 2014 Share #70 Posted September 24, 2014 Are there known to be dead M9's out there, beyond economic repair? and are all the parts still available as I understand that some parts for the M8 are no longer around cheers Rob
