trappistwoods Posted October 14, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 14, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello. I just bought a Leitz Leicaflex 'Standard' in great shape. It's my first camera. Are these still in use today by anyone? I'm new to photography. I'm taking a class next semester at my local community college.

Michael Geschlecht Posted October 14, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 14, 2010 Hello trappistwoods, Welome to the Forum, Yes. If you are interested in learning film photography this is a camera which will allow you, with an apprpriate lens(s), to take as good or better pictures as can be taken with any other camera film or digital. BTW, which lens(s) do you have to use w/ it? You can find much information about this camera and it's various lenses and accesories in the Leica Wiki & Search above on this page as well as by continuing to ask questions on this Forum. You will find a large number of helpful people willing to spend the time and effort to answer questions for you. You will find many issues which pop into your mind will be gone over in detail by checking the sources in the above two paragraphs. Please remember: The only siilly question is the one you don't ask. Please also remember: A camera and lens, film or digital, is simply an image capture device. This is a time period where film and digital are essentially equivalent in quality & viability (in terms of image capture) so rest asssured the technical quality of the images will be quite good by today's standards. Your camera, the first Leitz camera built as a SLR alone (there had beeen add ons for previous systems) was built to a quality level unequaled by many manufacturers today. It was also built to be used. Without film in it try all combinations of everything, after reading the instruction book - Wiki, etc. This is a camera which will work better if it is used regularily. Read & Ask. Take pictures & Look @ them. Best Regards, Michael
Michael Hiles Posted October 14, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 14, 2010 Your class mates may look at you as if you come from the Ark. Ignore them. The Leicaflex was and is an outstanding camera. Built solidly and with levels of spphistication that are rare today. The viewfinder is one of its glories, and the microprism focusing screen is very impresive indeed.
