I use Zeiss Ikon ZM and Leica M8. I use two lenses on it, but had I have to go for only one lens - Zeiss Biogon 2/35mm it would be. $1000 new, perhaps available used somewhere. Check the reviews of it.

Only drawback is the M43 filter tread - most others are M46. This may be an issue when you think you will use a lot of filters with different lenses later.

hey all,

i just purchased an m8 off of ebay and the seller says that it doesn't come with the filters (as he didn't get the filters included when he bought). do i need the filters to guard against the so-called "magenta effect"?

i'm very new at rangefindera and have no idea.

i too plan on getting a voigtlander 35 mm for my first lens.

any other advice is welcome.

thanks!

Yes - get B&W 486 filters and superglue;) them to your lenses. You will need to get lenses shorter that 35 mm coded though. That Voigtländer 35 is in my experience OK without coding. If the seller didn't get the filters from Leica you may still be entitled to two. E-mail Leica with the serial number of the camera and inquire.

The 28mm 2.8 Zeiss ZM is uniformly sharp on M8 except only the very far corners.

On top of that it has beautiful Bokeh and no CA, it has almost flat field and focuses down to 0.5M as opposed to 0.7M although without range-finder support.

It has 46mm Filter thread works perfectly coded as a 28mm 2.8 Asph with Leica UVIR filter.

Also handles flare rather predictably, shooting into the sun can give less contrast:)

I registered my second hand M8 on Leica's site and was offered to order two UV/IR filters... only to receive a mail a few days later asking for copies of the warranty card which I did not get. It was too good to be true...;)

They asked me the same thing. I emailed them back to explain I purchased 2nd hand and don't have such papers. After honestly explaining the situation they mailed me back to tell me they only asked for the warranty card etc to make sure the serial number stated was correct.

I then verified them the serial number to be correct along with a phone camera snapshot of the M8 with serial number visible. They sent me the filters after that.

So, explain your situation honestly and you'll get your filters. Leica is a nice company to deal with. In case you don't have their e-mail contact, it's M8.Support (at) leica-camera.com
