Advertisement Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hi Nei1, Take a look here ikodot finder. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
giordano Posted October 6, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 6, 2010 According to[/url] Ikodot.com it's available for USD 99. It'll work as well on the X1 as on any other camera: excellent for viewing with both eyes open, lousy for precise framing.
phancj Posted October 6, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 6, 2010 Dunno if it works or not, but honestly, though I am generally not concerned with looks & cosmetics I think I will not be caught dead with such a device on my X1!
h00ligan Posted October 7, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 7, 2010 I can't believe they're charging $99 for bent paperclips in a hot shoe. Yikes!
UliWer Posted October 7, 2010 Share #5 Posted October 7, 2010 I'd prefer a RASUK: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.de/index.php/Leica_Sucher
jsrockit Posted October 7, 2010 Share #6 Posted October 7, 2010 I think it looks rad... I think I'll get one for my new Leica If.
Guest badbob Posted October 7, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can't believe they're charging $99 for bent paperclips in a hot shoe. Yikes! I was just thinking, yeah - bend those paperclips until you get precise framing. As long as you don't have to keep re-bending them (sigh).
phancj Posted October 8, 2010 Share #8 Posted October 8, 2010 I'd prefer a RASUK: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.de/index.php/Leica_Sucher Thanks for another suggestion of the perfect monstrosity to ruin a compact camera...haha!
nigelb Posted October 8, 2010 Share #9 Posted October 8, 2010 The Ikodot would seem to fe frought with inaccuracies. People with huge noses and amputated thumbs best stay away!
jsrockit Posted October 11, 2010 Share #10 Posted October 11, 2010 I ordered one... should be here any day now. I spoke to the maker about durability. He said it is relatively durable. He basically said to buy it, try it, and return it if I don't like it. I figure it is worth my time.
jsrockit Posted October 11, 2010 Share #11 Posted October 11, 2010 I can't believe they're charging $99 for bent paperclips in a hot shoe. Yikes! True, but how about his time making sure it is precise as a finder of this sort can be. I'm sure if we went about making one of these with paperclips, we'd waste more than $99 of our time. jsrockit Posted October 11, 2010 Share #13 Posted October 11, 2010 Well let us know what you think and see a pic of it mounted. Sure, but I won't be using it on my X1... I'm using it on a Leica If ... like this:
jsrockit Posted October 14, 2010 Share #14 Posted October 14, 2010 Ok, got this in the mail a few days ago. I tried it and could see its benefit, but honestly, it wasn't for me (as I actually prefer a little bit of tunnel vision i.e. black borders). I am returning mine, but I can state that it is well made and relatively durable. It does not go out of whack easily and is certainly not bendable like paper clips. h00ligan Posted October 14, 2010 Share #15 Posted October 14, 2010 Interesting. Well at least we know now!
Nei1 Posted October 15, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted October 15, 2010 Ok, got this in the mail a few days ago. Sorry to go on a bit but as youve tried it.........could you frame accuratly or at least do you feel that with a little accustomisation you would be confident of the framing and also could you achieve a sort of virtual frame by leaving both eyes open(not explained very well).Im thinking that by having both eyes open the out of focus frame will be a sort of slight though significant presense..........maybe I should just buy one,. jsrockit Posted October 15, 2010 Share #17 Posted October 15, 2010 Well, framing accurately would depend entirely on how accurate you set your eye to the frame of this device and how far away you are from your subject. I found it hard to be consistent. It does work with both eyes open which of course is its main draw.
