Guest badbob Posted October 7, 2010 Share #41 Posted October 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) So how much can I sell my X1 for? its just like new, 247 total actuations on it. Its only good if your in a pill induced stupur and you have no idea of time, LOL Emma I dunno Emma. They had so much trouble delivering the X1, and then so many people returning them, that it's bound to be a collector's item just for the rarity. Guest badbob Posted October 7, 2010 Share #42 Posted October 7, 2010 Have you read this thread? http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-x1-forum/122773-proof-x1-can-shoot-action.htmlA lot of people, myself included, explained how they shot the kind of action you are describing. You should have been able to prefocus at a spot on the ground, hold the shutter half way down, then take the photo when the subject hit the spot you pre-focused on. You might need to practice the technique, but it clearly works. I see a lot of contrariety here, but nothing that negated this suggestion. Do we think this is a good idea? h00ligan Posted October 8, 2010 Author Share #43 Posted October 8, 2010 To be clear there was no threat issued, veiled or otherwise. My view is simply if you wouldn't insult someone to their face, don't do it on the Internet. In no way is that a threat, nor would I threaten anyone. As to the negative responders, I'll just start instablocking people when they act foolish. Back to topic! On the prefocus: one issue I see is that the x1 will lock exposure in this method. Not a good idea when the lights are above no? I did try to prefocus just left onto a wall of merchandise. Thanks for the help offered in this thread, I appreciate it. Guest stnami Posted October 8, 2010 Share #44 Posted October 8, 2010 Yea hooligan you did call Rob a cowgirl which is an insult ,knowing full well he is a male , so how come you don't have to abide by your rules that you place on others? fotografr Posted October 8, 2010 Share #45 Posted October 8, 2010 I see a lot of contrariety here, but nothing that negated this suggestion. Do we think this is a good idea? Why do you see contrariety where there is none? My post was factual and linked to a thread full of samples showing how other people have handled moving subjects. How that is being contrary is beyond me.

andybarton Posted October 10, 2010 Share #47 Posted October 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) What is it about digital cameras that bring out the worst in people? First it was the M8 forum, then the M9 and now that he X1 has become popular, it's in this sub-forum. Maybe there's a pattern that could be analysed. Please keep it civil, guys and converse with people as you would if they were in the same room, not on another continent.
h00ligan Posted October 10, 2010 Author Share #48 Posted October 10, 2010 Thanks Tom and Andy. I get what you are saying Tom, it's just unfortunate with how small and quiet it is I can't seem to get even basic action shots right. I know some of that has to do with the tool behind the tool, hence asking for advice.

This goes back as far as the Leica User Group in the 90's and the original Leica company customer forum. High end esoteric products tend to attract an obsessive, male, forum audience. The larger sensor with shallower DOF doesnt help here - however I dont hesistate to increase ISO if I need some more DOF. Also, even when using manual focus one needs to half press the shutter button before to avoid a shutter lag. (I dont know why this is the case)

Actually, Dan, this forum would be considered pretty tame and well mannered compared to what goes on in some forums--camera and non-photography. I think it's the same mentality that leads to road rage. People tend to feel a false sense of anonymity in these forums, much as they do in their cars, so they just let it rip. ChiILX1 Posted October 14, 2010 Share #55 Posted October 14, 2010 The way I would do this is first, arrive early. The X1 has custom white balance presets you can configure so I would set those up for atleast 2 positions I know I want to shoot from, since the varying lights would create a different temperature in both locations. I would also be sure to know if the windows would be opened etc... have to get that white balance down first. Then, for the focusing, what I would do is have an assistant stand up there and see exactly what the manual focus distance is- or set it for one location and mark your foot position in both locations with a marker to know where that distance is visually. You can also AF on the person and then switch to MF and just keep it there the whole time, going between the 2 locations. This allows you to just worry about exposure, desired depth of field, and framing during the shoot. You could even enable +/- 1 or 2 exposure bracketing if you notice exposure difficulties to refine your concerns even further.

I didn't realize there was just one viewpoint on the X1's autofocus performance. Thank you for correcting me.
h00ligan Posted October 15, 2010 Author Share #57 Posted October 15, 2010 I ran out tonight to try and hit the right light on something that caught my eye. Grabbed the x1..arrived...realized I forgot to put a mem card in..doh. Not the first and probably not the last time I'll make that mistake. So I took a few jpgs just to get an idea for when I inevitably have to go back. It's not much space, but I was thankful for the built in memory, hah.
