delander † Posted October 1, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) There is an interesting discussion going on in the customer forum on the use or not of 90mm lenses. Instead of posting this picture there, I started this thread. Hope it does not get lost. Even the statue was unaware of my prescence. Taken with the 90mm Elmarit-M. Jeff Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted October 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 1, 2010 Jeff - A lovely shot and clearly a much more up-to-date bronze dancer than Degas sculpted. I hope more 90 users add to this thread.

I hope more 90 users add to this thread. Thank you Stuart, I dont wish to bump this thread but following your comment I thought I would just mention that 'Young Dancer' is outside Covent Garden and is by Enzo Plazzotta who died in 1981 so it is fairly recent. delander † Posted October 1, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted October 1, 2010 Another using the 90 Elmarit. The story here is that of the peaceful but a little noisy protestor and the policewoman who decided to stick her oar in. Notice how he videos her all the time. She tried to get him to stop but he talked to her amicably and very cleverly and in the end offered her a choice 'arrest me or go away'. By then quite crowd had developed and the BBC had noticed and were recording the event. An arrest would have been absolutely ridiculous so she sloped off. Everything was quite peaceful and she should never have started it. I slightly missed focus on the protestor's face on this one. Capture One guess of F4. Cropped all around. The man in the foreground on the left appears in a lot of photographs of political events happening around Westminster. Jeff Welcome, dear visitor! pop Posted October 1, 2010 Share #7 Posted October 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've shown this one elsewhere in the photo forum, and it's a crop. However, it's done with an 90mm Elmarit-M. The same applies to this one:
delander † Posted October 1, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted October 1, 2010 A lovely and versatile small lens, bitingly sharp wide open if you nail the focus (as above). Jeff
Karl-Albert Posted October 2, 2010 Share #9 Posted October 2, 2010 Thank you for the good photos above. I like my 90 mm lens very much, here a photo of my son. I used an 40 year old 1:2,8 Tele Elmarit 90 mm on my M9. Welcome, dear visitor! pop Posted October 2, 2010 Share #10 Posted October 2, 2010 I just have thought of another one I have previously shown here. This one has been taken with an Epson R-D1 and, of course, the 90mm Elmarit-M.
vdb Posted October 2, 2010 Share #11 Posted October 2, 2010 Stumbled upon this thread. Big mistake. I really can't afford another lens:rolleyes: Jeff, the image of David is exceptional. Fabulous lens indeed.
ramosa Posted October 3, 2010 Share #12 Posted October 3, 2010 jeff: fine capture. really like the tone and, in terms of composition, the capture of three separate worlds ... three, indeed, two of people, one of a statue. this lens is really moving up on my list. well, it's at the top now. i want a 90mm ... pardon the question, but does anyone know what a reasonable price is for a used elmarit? pauledell Posted October 3, 2010 Share #14 Posted October 3, 2010 Jeff, I have a skinny 90mm Tele-Elmarit f/2.8 myself and though I haven't used it very much, it is a fine and sharp lens. After seeing these examples, I must use it more often. Paul
pop Posted October 3, 2010 Share #15 Posted October 3, 2010 pardon the question, but does anyone know what a reasonable price is for a used elmarit? I bought mine (Elmarit-M) roughly one year ago for some CHF 1000. By today's exchange rate that would be roughly USD 1000. I don't know if that's "reasonable", but that's what I paid. delander † Posted October 3, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted October 3, 2010 I bought mine 2 years ago for £595, the third lens after the 28 and 50. I bought it from a Leica dealer, to complete the set. It is in mint condition with box, the serial number indicates a manufacturing date of 1991. I had it coded by Leica Solms because they could not code that lens in the UK (I wonder why:confused:). It came back focusing perfectly. Jeff

anneofgreengables Posted October 8, 2010 Share #20 Posted October 8, 2010 Enrico I think it was more the photographer capturing the moment in that first shot, rather than the lens itself:). A heartwarming scene. The light/exposure in the second is superb.
