christer Posted October 26, 2010 Share #61 Â Posted October 26, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll use my 90mm Elmarit-M at least 74 times this afternoon, perhaps 75 or even 76 times. Â In the last six months I have used it more than 400 times! Â hope you'll find this information useful ;-)
Advertisement Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Hi christer, Take a look here How often do you use a 90mm?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JBA Posted October 26, 2010 Share #62 Â Posted October 26, 2010 I have the 90 Summicron-R and the Apo 90 Summicron-M Asph. They're both brilliant performers and an essential part of my kit. It's a magic focal length as far as I'm concerned, and short teles in general are a sweet spot for how I shoot. Â As someone pointed out earlier, it's a more useful focal length with an SLR, but an M with an 0.85 finder will boost its utility considerably. christer Posted October 26, 2010 Share #63  Posted October 26, 2010 This, then, is less than one quarter of one percent of the last six months' usage.  BTW, I use a .72 with a 1.15 (I think) magnifier.  (Scan from negative with CanoScan 8800F flatbed scanner)   PS. I see this picture appears much lighter here in the forum than the version sent. I do not know why, but am not a scanning person, I am a wet darkroom man. Welcome, dear visitor! epand56 Posted October 31, 2010 Share #64 Â Posted October 31, 2010 I use it so much that I've bought two of them, the Elmarit 90/2.8, a wonderful lens, and the Elmar C 90/4 that is a surprising small tele-lens, very sharp and versatile. I really love taking pictures with the 90. Â
adli Posted October 31, 2010 Share #65 Â Posted October 31, 2010 How often do I use a 90mm? Â According to Lightroom statistics (post processed in Excel): 90mm 21% 75mm 5% 50mm 17% 35mm 51% 24mm 6% Â Uncoded lenses not accounted for (they would only be a few % anyway). Â Hm, think my 28mm just came up for sale.
erl Posted October 31, 2010 Share #66 Â Posted October 31, 2010 As with all my lenses, I use the 90mm whenever it is the best option at the given moment in any situation. As to quantifying how many times that is does not seem important, at least to me. I can say that since it has been properly calibrated and coded by DAG, its usefulness has increased substantially. It now focuses where I want it to.
!Nomad64 Posted November 10, 2010 Share #67  Posted November 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a 28 Summicron ASPH and a 50 Summilux ASPH and thinking about adding a 90mm Elmarit to my arsenal.  For those who have a 90mm. Do you use it enough to justify buying it?  Thanks!  /c  Depending from the type of pictures you take. Ask yourself how many times you wished you had a 90. I started with a last generation Elmarit M and used it mainly for theater shows and concerts, sometimes for landscape and street. It's a hell of a lens, unbelievably sharp, which was beaten by only a tiny margin by the Summicron Apo ASPH. Don't be fooled by the differences in tests and MTF graphs, they won't be visible in real world photography. I recently upgraded to ASPH because I found a good one at a fair price and because I needed the extra stop, not otherwise. I really love my Elmarit and am very hesitant to sell it. No matter how nice it would be to recover some monies, I really hate the idea of selling Leitz glass, especially the good one! Furthermore it makes an excellent travel lens. It's as heavy as the ASPH but is more compact and fits better in a pocket. And last but not least it can be purchased 2nd hand for quite cheap (in Leica terms of course!).  Hope this helps Bruno
