Well, I can only say this: since there is nothing for me (and many of us), my month of wages for someone at the Leica factory is going to another manufacturer. My several thousand dollars is going to Canon.

If that means lay-offs, I am terribly sorry for that person. I can't stay in business and "not" pay attention to my clients.

I'm sorry, that's business.

Well... that's an odd consideration... should I (still a very loyal Leica customer) feel uneasy for the fact that maybe there has been some layoff for I haven't bought a Noctilux, a S2, some new Summiluxes (and even - not yet ;) a M9) ??? The 500 (or some less) people who wll buy that funny M9Ti will do what I did not, so better... :p

How can it mean layoffs if you are not buying something they don't produce anyway?

I'm not sure what business you're in but if someone else makes something that my customers have been asking me for -and I continue not to service that client base- they might just move all of their business to my competition.

... and if I start to lose business to my competition, maybe I won't be able to afford having as many staff around?

Is this clearer? I'm pretty sure business works the same way in Holland, Jaap.

Umm...Yes- but they have discontinued the R cameras - so there is nobody employed in that division. If you buy a Canon or Nikon there is nobody to lay off. The staff have been redeployed to building S2s, or X1s, or M9s. Nobody will start buying Canon digital rangefinders because there is no Leica 135 reflex camera. Leica is a niche producer. They will never have a full range of products.

Completely the opposite........

.......If you look at the complete lens lineup of Leica you won't find one weak lens.

.

Hmm, I beg to disagree. At least in the R-range they have offered a Japanese (zoom) buy-in in Leica disguise where the optical quality was, well, somewhat debatable.

Having just seen this L'Eclaireur x Gilles Ouaki x Leica X1 Digital Camera | Highsnobiety.com , I don't think we've seen the end of this year's 'designer specials' yet.

If you look at the properties of the picture, Leica is spelled 'laica', which means secular, or lay in Spanish. Anti-snobbery, or the result of outsourcing?
