I like it too!

The X1 camera would be much better looking if the top plate and lens (external) barrel is made of silver chromed or coated metal. The Fuji X100 seems to be made of aluminum.

The only problem in such case, I guess, is the total weight of the lens. It has to expand and retract, so it needs to be as light as possible. A non-retractable lens would allow a full metal finish, but then the problem is size.

Fuji X100's lens is small, non-rectratable and full metal, ok, but then the back of the lens has to be very near of the sensor. So you need a specially designed sensor, like that employed by Fuji.

All seems to be interconnected.

I'm really amazed at these sort of threads ... I mean who really cares if it't black, patterned, white orange or just red ... what do you people do with your cameras, install them in the living room as works of art?

What is wrong with appreciating product designs? Museums have sections dedicated to product designs as works of art. We understand that you love your X1 and you will never love another camera ever (though, based on your comments, I'm shocked that you just don't stick a pin hole into a quacker oats box and use that). However, no need to ruin other people's enthusiasm.

Well you got me there ... Rocket I must say, maybe I'm particular in these things, and I am sorry for this if this disturbs you, I generally buy something for its function, for that is what I need whilst buying these items I tend to look at how it will perform according to my wishes and needs and definitely not how it LOOKS! .... I might be a tad off here in a community of posers but still cannot find the need to refrain form the fact that buying something for its actual performances withing that area of needs and wishes might be a wise decision other than going for it' looks ... but then who am I, I might be totally wrong, don't let it bring you down though, just perceive any snake-skin pattern anybody might introduce, maybe there will even be a "littlefee" pattern lets just wish hey....

Upon joining the LUF I thought I would learn something about achieving, about learning etc.etc.

I do frequent the image section though I enjoy looking at some marvelous images, but thats about it.... constantly being encountered by the design and function of Leica cameras doesn't really lead to anything now does it?

Yes, I get swayed by aesthetics after function... good design equals fun to use for me. You cannot assume that anyone who likes the way cameras look is a poser.

Honestly, the best place to learn something isn't a forum... they tend to be gear-centric.

You know, before I bought my X1, I have owned a C-LUX 1 for some time now. I can't remember how much I paid for it but it was the first of the C-LUX cameras and all it is, is a rebadged Panasonic. It is a 6MP point-and-shoot camera and the image quality is just-O.K. I probably paid twice as much as what I should have for it and it is probably worth no more than $150 now. With that said, I find the form factor, even after all of these years, to be simple and beautiful. It doesn't get much use, these days, but I am still emotionally attached to it. I know, for sure, if I would've bought the Panasonic version, I would've sold it a long time ago. It would just be junk to me. You can never underestimate the role that emotions play with regards to how attached we are to objects.

I am very happy with my X1 the way it is, even the autofocus does not bother me.

Must say that the skin of the black version looks great.

It's interesting to see that in this community, aesthetics like the color, the strap and the bag etc.

are só important.

I am sure many of you have seen photos of the new, limited edition, titanium M9 by now. Talk about a high-tech makeover. Whether you like it or not, I am impressed with the folks at Audi and Leica for producing this cost-no-object camera. It makes the black X1 look like a game of Candyland in comparison. So here is my plea to Leica: Please, pour over every detail of the X1 and betrothe it the same kind of attention. Use real glass for the LCD screen. Use metal where there is plastic. Give us a full metal viewfinder that is proportionate to the camera. Make the necessary hardware changes and software upgrades. Give us leather skin. You know the scoop, Leica. I don't need to tell you. Give us an X1 as special at the prototype X1 and the titanium M9.

Yup, to me the functionality is key. I am not bothered with colors, etc, etc.

But if it doesnt cost us more to have a better looking camera why not?
