Guest imported_stefan_r Posted July 12, 2006 Share #9 Posted July 12, 2006 Gérald, that’s my participation to the tendency that every single picture is a "wonderful work".

gverdon Posted July 12, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted July 12, 2006 Gérald, that’s my participation to the tendency that every single picture is a "wonderful work". There was no need to explain... obvious. The question is: why is it a such big problem for you? There are more than 3'700 members in this forum, from a lot of different countries and cultures, all trying to use the so-called international language, i.e., english, to say what they feel about some pictures they choose because they like them... Mostly, when a pic is not of our taste, we don't comment it, because it's simply impossible to comment on each and every thread. Sometimes, however, critics and debates are invited and usually things went politely (once again, because it is really difficult to measure the sensibilty of other culture's people) and without useless provocation. That's all. Besides, your photos are often praised here and you don't seem to suffer too much about that... since you continue to post or even repost them ;-) Cheers, Gérald
Guest imported_stefan_r Posted July 14, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 14, 2006 Hello Gérald, “”The question is: why is it a such big problem for you?”” who told you that I have a “problem” with it? no problem at all, it looks like that you don’t like it, or why all this long explanation? I just express what I see, what I read, every single picture here is a “terrific shot”, yes different countries and cultures, and that’s the reason why commenting pictures here must be done in a superficial way? “Mostly, when a pic is not of our taste, we don't comment it” yes that’s a very easy way, goes together with the superficiality I see under most of the pictures. what if tomorrow one of the big leica masters shows his pictures here, what words will you use? the same ones you use for the others work here? “”politely (once again, because it is really difficult to measure the sensibilty of other culture's people)””” what has the culture to do with the picture? are we commenting pictures or the photographer with his different cultures? in my case I clearly can say that I comment pictures! in the way I see them. like in your case here, when I think the picture is good with a short statement, when I thing the picture has some weak point I explain them. maybe my signature is a provocation, and if some start to think about it, the “provocation” has done already something good! the superficial comments under my pictures I forget immediately, I stay with the interesting ones. and about the reposts, I am not an accounting clerk who writes down when and where he showed a photograph, so please excuse me for that. and at last, I refuse to write superficial generalized sentences like “wonderful terrific shot” under pictures that obviously have weak points. I will not lower my standards to the general level, everybody has to decide this for himself. best regards Stefan
zanydave Posted July 14, 2006 Share #13 Posted July 14, 2006 Ok for what it's worth. This picture looks like one of those mistakes that later we try & pass off as "Art" I've Enjoyed your other work Gérald but this doesn't cut the mustard. Dave. gverdon Posted July 19, 2006 Author Share #14 Posted July 19, 2006 Dave, thank you for your comment. I understand your point, but, in this case, it was a series of attempts at 8 sec., not exactly a mistake. ;-) Now, it's a matter of taste, I suppose. Cheers, Gérald
gverdon Posted July 19, 2006 Author Share #15 Posted July 19, 2006 Hello Gérald, Hello Stefan, “”The question is: why is it a such big problem for you?”” who told you that I have a “problem” with it? I did! I have eyes to read and I have brain and some experience to get the figure... ;-) (...) in my case I clearly can say that I comment pictures! in the way I see them. like in your case here, when I think the picture is good with a short statement, when I thing the picture has some weak point I explain them. That's perfect. And I think you're right. Just do it. Why do you absolutely want to convince other? Do you feel you have a holly mission? ;-) maybe my signature is a provocation, and if some start to think about it, the “provocation” has done already something good! Hmmm... I doubt... "Provocation" is rarely the best way (and here is our "cultural" problem"). Sticking with your comments (and I've read some -- some -- very brilliant comments from you, you have a really good eye) may be the best incitation for others... ""Besides, your photos are often praised here and you don't seem to suffer too much about that... since you continue to post or even repost them ;-)"" and about the reposts, I am not an accounting clerk who writes down when and where he showed a photograph, so please excuse me for that. ;-)) Jesuitical education?... you just point out the end of the phrase (re-post) and forget the essential: the fact you post here... and at last, I refuse to write superficial generalized sentences like “wonderful terrific shot” under pictures that obviously have weak points. I will not lower my standards to the general level, everybody has to decide this for himself. Again, no problem with that. But who asked you to do that? Best, Gérald
dan_drabek Posted July 19, 2006 Share #16 Posted July 19, 2006 Gerald, I think that Stefan might be irritated when others receive the same kind of praise he receives when their work is so 'obviously inferior'. At least, that's the way it appears on my monitor. :-> By the way, I like the above picture. Looks like one of those images people record on film at a seance. marc_dufour Posted July 20, 2006 Share #17 Posted July 20, 2006 Gérald, I like the pictures, its atmosphère. I don't mind the way you got it... experiment, mistake, well prepared spot... The important thing is the feelings it carries and causes. Marc

Guest imported_stefan_r Posted July 21, 2006 Share #19 Posted July 21, 2006 """Gerald, I think that Stefan might be irritated when others receive the same kind of praise he receives when their work is so 'obviously inferior'."""" yes! Iam really envious, I can’t sleep by night, it makes me unhappy, and sometimes I even have to cry when I see that "'obviously inferior'" superficial work. gverdon Posted July 21, 2006 Author Share #20 Posted July 21, 2006 Stefan, you choose to answer to that... But you also choose to stop our discussion... No more arguments? I'm surprised... As you seem only answer to positive comments on your images... see http://www.leica-camera-user.com/people/1732-summer-ganges.html#post16332... or using other thread to write bitter sarcasms instead of answering to legitimate comments on your photos (not your person)... see http://www.leica-camera-user.com/people/1959-stand-offish-then-open-5-photos.html#post17445... Really surprised... Not really honnest and rather cheap... Gérald
