I'd be interested but I am too busy to organise anything. Also the w/e of 25/26 is my birthday and I will probably be otherwise engaged. I thought the next scheduled meet was the week before (closest to the 21st).

I thought that the arrangement was for the last weekend of the last month of the quarter, but that's not really the point. It is more about finding a date, time and location that suits the majority.

I'd like to meet up soon too. The One Challenge in Venice takes place on 16th so some, including me, will be away for that and I'll also away in the Highlands in the last week of October but apart from those I'm free.

I originally suggested Greenwich sometime ago and there appeared to be good support (even though it's 'sarf o' the riva':p) so how does Saturday 2nd October suit people?

My thoughts were to meet at a pub or cafe near Greenwich station, which is close enough for those arriving by train or DLR, (I'll check out the river ferry to see how convenient that is and where it lands) and then consider a saunter through Greenwich town past/through the markets and up to the Observatory for views across Docklands and London and perhaps a coffee and a morsel in the cafe if it seems like the right time.

Other things we could do either instead or as well depending on time and ardour are the Royal Naval Museum (National Maritime Museum) and the Old Royal Naval College, the Greenwich foot tunnel under the Thames to Docklands and the white, plastic bubble that's hiding the charcoal remains of the Cutty Sark, (On second thought, perhaps strike the last one.) And then perhaps retire to a suitable establishment for fortification and refreshments to make up outrageous stories about improbable events.

Any takers, any thoughts, any alternative ideas?

Pete.

I've just remembered many of the river ferries pick up commuters working in Docklands and don't run on saturdays. I've only ever used them on weekdays.

Bob.

Bob,

Thanks for the tip. I've checked the TfL website and it shows plenty of River Taxi services running to Greenwich Pier from as far as west as Westminster Millennium Pier on Saturday 9th. I presumed you'd probably catch it at Blackfriars (Kings Cross to Blackfriars on the Tube?) and it's showing about an hour on the River Taxi so it looks like it would be a 'leisurely' journey and other forms of transport might be more convenient.:o

I'm a Greenwich local so may well be able to pop down and join you.

This local blogger has lots of information on the area which may inspire your visit: The Greenwich Phantom

One suggestion would be to aim for a refreshment stop at the Cutty Sark pub on the river - carry on walking past the Royal Naval College and the Trafalgar Inn along the little river-side pedestrian path going East. Good views of Canary Wharf and the North Greenwich Arena (aka Dome/02), characterful old pub, decent food and beer: Cutty Sark Tavern - Welcome - Tavern in Greenwich - London
