Seeingeye Posted September 12, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are there any plans for a London meet at the end of September? If we adhere to the normal schedule, that would mean either 25 or 26 September. There has previously been talk of doing the twice postponed visit to Greenwich on this occasion. Advertisement Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Hi Seeingeye, Take a look here London Meet - September. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
biglouis Posted September 12, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2010 I'd be interested but I am too busy to organise anything. Also the w/e of 25/26 is my birthday and I will probably be otherwise engaged. I thought the next scheduled meet was the week before (closest to the 21st). Tim B Posted September 12, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 12, 2010 Yes, it would be good to meet and I'm up for it, but that weekend is out for me as I have a family wedding. Tim
Seeingeye Posted September 12, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted September 12, 2010 I'd be interested but I am too busy to organise anything. Also the w/e of 25/26 is my birthday and I will probably be otherwise engaged. I thought the next scheduled meet was the week before (closest to the 21st). I thought that the arrangement was for the last weekend of the last month of the quarter, but that's not really the point. It is more about finding a date, time and location that suits the majority. spylaw4 Posted September 12, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 12, 2010 Regrettably I can't make it this quarter, but I hope to organise something before the end of year holiday season - early December most likely.
bill Posted September 12, 2010 Share #6 Posted September 12, 2010 I already have plans to be here on the 26th - happy for anyone to join me there. Regards, Bill
MartinEB Posted September 13, 2010 Share #7 Posted September 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd like to join an Autumn meet, having missed the last one. But I can't do Sept now, I can do 2nd Oct and 9th Oct, but not the 16th. Greenwich sounds good to me - I used to work there years ago. Regards to all Martin
earleygallery Posted September 17, 2010 Share #8 Posted September 17, 2010 End of Oct onwards would suit me, depending on whether specific dates clash with a Quins home match!
farnz Posted September 18, 2010 Share #9 Posted September 18, 2010 I'd like to meet up soon too. The One Challenge in Venice takes place on 16th so some, including me, will be away for that and I'll also away in the Highlands in the last week of October but apart from those I'm free. I originally suggested Greenwich sometime ago and there appeared to be good support (even though it's 'sarf o' the riva') so how does Saturday 2nd October suit people? My thoughts were to meet at a pub or cafe near Greenwich station, which is close enough for those arriving by train or DLR, (I'll check out the river ferry to see how convenient that is and where it lands) and then consider a saunter through Greenwich town past/through the markets and up to the Observatory for views across Docklands and London and perhaps a coffee and a morsel in the cafe if it seems like the right time. Other things we could do either instead or as well depending on time and ardour are the Royal Naval Museum (National Maritime Museum) and the Old Royal Naval College, the Greenwich foot tunnel under the Thames to Docklands and the white, plastic bubble that's hiding the charcoal remains of the Cutty Sark, (On second thought, perhaps strike the last one.) And then perhaps retire to a suitable establishment for fortification and refreshments to make up outrageous stories about improbable events. Any takers, any thoughts, any alternative ideas? Pete. George James Posted September 18, 2010 Share #10 Posted September 18, 2010 Pete, I like the cut of your jib, count me in for Saturday 2nd Oct. George
bill Posted September 18, 2010 Share #11 Posted September 18, 2010 Unfortunately, I can't do the 2nd - we have a wedding to attend Regards, Bill
Seeingeye Posted September 18, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted September 18, 2010 Hi Pete Excellent suggestion, with just one problem for me - I cannot do 2 October! Either 9 or 23 October would be OK, on the assumption that some of the regulars will be somewhere even more photogenic on the 16th. farnz Posted September 18, 2010 Share #13 Posted September 18, 2010 Ooookay ... would moving the date to Saturday 9th October pose a problem generally, and in particular for George, George? Pete.
George James Posted September 18, 2010 Share #14 Posted September 18, 2010 Pete - Saturday the 9th of October would be o.k. for me. George
gravastar Posted September 18, 2010 Share #15 Posted September 18, 2010 Saturday the 9th of October would be o.k for me as well . A return to Westminster on the river ferry can be very enjoyable if the late afternoon/evening weather is fine. Bob.
farnz Posted September 18, 2010 Share #16 Posted September 18, 2010 Thanks, Gents. Okay so far then that's: George (George James) Mike (Seeingeye) Bob (Gravastar) Me (Farnz) Everybody's welcome, Folks! Pete.
gravastar Posted September 19, 2010 Share #17 Posted September 19, 2010 I've just remembered many of the river ferries pick up commuters working in Docklands and don't run on saturdays. I've only ever used them on weekdays. Bob.

I've only ever used them on weekdays. Bob. Bob, Thanks for the tip. I've checked the TfL website and it shows plenty of River Taxi services running to Greenwich Pier from as far as west as Westminster Millennium Pier on Saturday 9th. I presumed you'd probably catch it at Blackfriars (Kings Cross to Blackfriars on the Tube?) and it's showing about an hour on the River Taxi so it looks like it would be a 'leisurely' journey and other forms of transport might be more convenient. Pangur Ban Posted September 21, 2010 Share #20 Posted September 21, 2010 I'm a Greenwich local so may well be able to pop down and join you. This local blogger has lots of information on the area which may inspire your visit: The Greenwich Phantom One suggestion would be to aim for a refreshment stop at the Cutty Sark pub on the river - carry on walking past the Royal Naval College and the Trafalgar Inn along the little river-side pedestrian path going East. Good views of Canary Wharf and the North Greenwich Arena (aka Dome/02), characterful old pub, decent food and beer: Cutty Sark Tavern - Welcome - Tavern in Greenwich - London
