Robinyuill Posted September 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there. Have a 15mm Voigtlander (screw fit) and I have an adapter ring, 28/90 leica, I am going to mill out and code. I have the Leica M codes list and I believe it should be coded as a WATE. The question is do I need to mill out all the indents and colour them all black and white or just the single black one? I have the code as 010000 = white.black.wh.wh.wh.wh. Any knowledge out there from someone? Regards. Robin.

Johnny_Johnson Posted September 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 9, 2010 You only need to mill the slots that are to be coded black. Later, Johnny
zombii Posted September 10, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 10, 2010 I have a M mount CV 15mm and when I tried to code it as a WATE, it wouldn't take it. Ended up coding it as a 21mm.
epand56 Posted September 10, 2010 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2010 Zombii, my M mount 15 is coded as WATE and works very well. Any time I mount the lens it asks me whether I want the 16, 18 or 21 code. You just have to check the black dot is perfectly in its place.
bocaburger Posted September 10, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 10, 2010 Ditto here, single black recess milled into an older Leitz 9cm adapter, brings up the WATE focal-length choice menu (I call it the WAIT menu ) each time. I use the 16mm setting. the M9 doesn't differentiate between the 3 focal lengths so there's no pop-up menu. If you want to put the focal length on the INFO screen (and in EXIF) you have to key it in manually. And I find that the manual coding for the pre-ASPH 21 Elmarit works much better in the M9 than the WATE coding. At f/5.6 (my fixed shooting aperture with the 15) and ISO 160 I don't seem to need Cornerfix.
DavidStone Posted September 10, 2010 Share #6 Posted September 10, 2010 I tried this with the M-mount 15mm, which has a groove that can be used for coding. Very easily done. I used the code for the WATE, which the camera accepted, chose 16mm, no problem, but the result was hopelessly under-corrected. So I use Cornerfix, which is less convenient, but very accurate. Why it didn't work I have no idea. David

Mine has no grove for coding Can somebody, preferably with an coded M-mount Heliar make a photo of the mount (90º aligned to the mount), to positively identify the position of the one black mark? I would like, to experiment with this a bit on the M8.2.
PasMichiel Posted September 13, 2010 Share #9 Posted September 13, 2010 Just a single dot will do. It's the Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21mm f/4 code, so the camera asks 16, 18 or 21mm. Choose for 16 and it works fine. Don't forget to choose Lens detection to On (without UV/IR). I do not have a filter for this lens (I don't think there is one for this lens)
Robinyuill Posted September 13, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted September 13, 2010 Thanks for the info. I have tried marking the lens mount with a black felt tip pen prior to me milling and filling in with black paint and I am certain its in the correct place but can not see any effect on the image and the camera gives no lens info in the exif as to type of lens identified. Am I doing anything wrong at this point? Is the sensor sensitive to the type of "black" mark on the lens mount? Any suggestions thanks. Robin. Robinyuill Posted September 13, 2010 Author Share #11 Posted September 13, 2010 HI there. Quick update. I milled the mount and filled the indent with model paint and it seems to have worked. It comes up as an 18mm lens on the info screen and there is some better difference in the colour cast. Thanks again for the previous help. Regards.... Robin.
