luigi bertolotti Posted September 8, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2010 Interesting : I often thought that sometime a manufacturer would have put to the market a "BW only" sensor... after all any sensor is born as a BW device...and the Bayer filter subtracts by definition a part of physical resolution: but clearly, reading at dpr review, is not so easy... in a film world that was well dominated by color, is understandable that R&D efforts have been geared from the start to color sensors, and the big price for this Phase One suggests that they target very specialty users (even if I see no reason for, would the product be appreciated, price could go to "reasonable" levels) If only the DMR wouldn't have been killed.... adan Posted September 8, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 8, 2010 Of note, that removing the AA filter AND the Bayer pattern increases effective resolution, in one of the reviewers' phrasing, "about 2/3rds of the way" from a 39 Mpixel back to a (filtered) 60 Mpixel back. So, in effect, to about the equivalent of 53 Mpixels. 60-39=21 21/3=7 7x2=14 39+14=53 which comes out as a 35% total resolution increase, or (square root) a 16% linear resolution increase (lines per mm). Seems about right. But it's the first time I've seen a real head-to-head comparison. Would have like to have seen regular P45+ vs the P45+ Achro.
