Michael Geschlecht Posted August 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) Hello ryee3, The Elpro VIa & VIb are achromats. Two element closeup lenses designed for use with the 50mm Summicron-R. Alone the 50mm would focus from Infinity to 50cm. That is from Infinity to 1 : 7.6 This always indicates image size divided by object size. Never the other way around. Image : Object - sometimes written - Image/Object With the VIa the range would be 1 : 7.7 to 1 : 3.8 With the VIb the range would be 1 : 3.9 to 1 : 2.6 The Elpros would be installed by first removing the filter retaining ring. Then the appropriate Elpro would be installed. Please note: Combining Elpros, though conceptually interesting, would not produce images of reasonable quality. A filter, if needed, is put in place on top of the Elpro. The filter retaining ring next. On top of that the lens shade whose primary purpose is impact damage protection. Flare reduction being secondary. That's it. Best Regards, Michael Edited August 28, 2010 by Michael Geschlecht
tobey bilek Posted August 30, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 30, 2010 The Elpros all retained 98% of the image quality. Not so with cheap close up filters. I am currently using them on Nikons. It is made to fit the original Leica 50 2.0 and no other lens. Adapters change the distance from Elpro to lens so do not try on other lenses as it will not likely work. Other Elpros were made for 90 and 135 and a later series Called Elpro 1,2,3 &4 for 55mm front filter lenses. Do not try adaption from one set to another. Leicaquarters Posted August 30, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 30, 2010 According to the Gesamtkatalog 1976 the Elpro VI a was indeed meant for the 50 mm Summicron-R lens. Disances : 50 - 31 cm (object - film) 184 - 276 mm (size of object) 41 - 21 cm (object - frontlens) 91 - 137 mm (size of object) If you want I can copy the page for you. Michael Geschlecht Posted August 30, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 30, 2010 Hello Everybody, Welcome Peter, While we are at it let me add: The VI and VII Involved are Series Filter designations. Many early Leitz Reflex Lenses took Series size filters and these lenses fit into those filter holders. Best Regards, Michael
