Advertisement Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Hi andybarton, Take a look here Leica statement on film camera production. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Rolo Posted August 26, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 26, 2010 Moderators duplicating threads now ? See: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/barnacks-bar/137198-end-m7-mp-3.html#post1426911 Oh, you already did.
andybarton Posted August 26, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted August 26, 2010 I thought that this was sufficiently news-worthy to warrant a thread in the "News" section. But actually, it isn't news at all, is it? Basically, nothing happened today.
adan Posted August 26, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 26, 2010 At least Leica's statement to BJP is more definitive. I'd say that is newsworthy, given the vagueness of the previous statement.
Rolo Posted August 26, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 26, 2010 Basically, nothing happened today. Not quite true, you had an extraction and I received welcome news from Leica.
Jeff S Posted August 26, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 26, 2010 The video shown here is exactly the one I referenced in the other thead I started, which was the basis for my surprise at the discussion over at TOP. Jeff

adan Posted August 27, 2010 Share #9 Posted August 27, 2010 I'm just checking - everyone did notice that that video dates from before the Hessenpark meeting of the LUF with Leica, right? Dated 2009. With a reference to the upcoming meeting. 15 months ago?? Which means it tells us exactly zippity-do-dah about Leica's current - you know, 2010 - production of cameras. As I said, the statement is clearer.
earleygallery Posted August 27, 2010 Share #10 Posted August 27, 2010 What about the poor sod's who went out and bought up every single 'last' M7 and MP they could lay their hands on, in the hope of creaming a profit. What will Leica do to compensate them?!
Nicoleica Posted August 27, 2010 Share #11 Posted August 27, 2010 What about the poor sod's who went out and bought up every single 'last' M7 and MP they could lay their hands on, in the hope of creaming a profit. What will Leica do to compensate them?! I'm still waiting for my C11 to be worth a fortune, so that I can exchange it for an M9 outfit.
pico Posted August 27, 2010 Share #12 Posted August 27, 2010 What about the poor sod's who went out and bought up every single 'last' M7 and MP they could lay their hands on, in the hope of creaming a profit. What will Leica do to compensate them?! Leica could buy them back at 15% below cost. There are too many film Leica M cameras out there. Leica could start a trade-in program, then destroy the trade-ins, or just lock them away forever - anything to get the darned things off the market. They just last too long! keithdunlop Posted August 27, 2010 Share #13 Posted August 27, 2010 The video showing production of an M7 body is from May 2009. How is something produced 15 months ago considered news? This means absolutely nothing concerning the current August 2010 Leica film camera production levels, except maybe to the people who aren't paying attention to the fact that this video is over a year old. This thread should really be taken off the "news" section.
andybarton Posted August 27, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted August 27, 2010 The video is not the news. The fact that Leica still make film cameras is the news given the rumours to the contrary this week. I thought that was perfectly clear. Have you read the link in my first post in this thread? keithdunlop Posted August 27, 2010 Share #15 Posted August 27, 2010 It's not "perfectly clear" when the online article being distributed as news fails to meet even the barest of journalistic standards. The author fails to state when the interview took place, and who the statements are attributed to. The article only quotes "Leica" as saying . . . And then the article is supported by the 15 month old video with the title "Does Leica still make MP and M7". It's all highly misleading at best. What this really reads like is highly orchestrated PR. I'm sorry, but I stand by my initial analysis that this isn't "news".
andybarton Posted August 27, 2010 Author Share #16 Posted August 27, 2010 The piece clearly states that it is in response to the recent rumours. The piece is dated this week and is in the most august photographic journal available. It's not an interview, it's a statement. If you don't believe it, just say so. pico Posted August 28, 2010 Share #17 Posted August 28, 2010 It appears, and I hope I am correct, that Leica is a nimble company, so even with its comparitively small assembly lines it can produce digital and/or flm cameras in a responsive manner. So, I would not worry. Leica will respond to demand, for better or worse, depending upon your wants.
wattsy Posted August 29, 2010 Share #18 Posted August 29, 2010 is in the most august photographic journal available. LOL. The BJP is not the photographic equivalent of The Economist. I know from personal experience that they will publish virtually anything that is written in English and has some relevance to photography. In journalism terms, the BJP has more in common with those august journals OK and Hello.
