RichardM8 Posted August 27, 2010 Share #21  Posted August 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine is a bit battered now - no screen protector and I don't use a case. Also I try to take it with me a lot. The upside is I get some great shots that I'd miss if I was faffing with a case and the downside is that the camera gets a beating. Funnily enough, the less I bother to worry about it the more I connect with using it and start to get better shots - bracing the camera against rusty poles, the ground - whatever - things you can't do if you're in OCD mode  Love this approach too. + 1.    I just can't bring myself to it, whimp than I am. I saw a guy in my camera shop with an M9 that looked as if it was dragged behind a car wit a rope. He couldn't care less as it seemed. Amazing. Advertisement Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Hi RichardM8, Take a look here How's everyone's X1 holding up?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
phancj Posted August 27, 2010 Share #22 Â Posted August 27, 2010 My X1 has a dent at the bottom corner as I dropped it once, the second time I dropped it I broke the lens cap which I replaced at a ^!&%^#$^#%^%@ price haha. I do have a free spare screen protector that is originally for my mobile phone so I trimmed it for the X1:D Â I agree, shouldnt take care of it too much at the expense of taking great pictures. On the other hand, having paid $2K we should try not to wreck it so we can continue taking great pictures??
h00ligan Posted August 27, 2010 Share #23 Â Posted August 27, 2010 I don't think care and great photos are mutually exclusive, I do think the x1 is incrediblly delicate compared to 'lesser' cameras.

I think it is no less delicate, it's more our expectations of its build quality given the price. I am happy with the feel and look of the camera, but am unsure of its robustness...  with "lesser" cams we care less so even if there are scratches, dents or what-have-yous we are more forgiving?
vicpeh Posted August 27, 2010 Share #25  Posted August 27, 2010 So, does rust affect the AF performance?  Not in my case  Here's the proof:
drstefanlenz Posted August 27, 2010 Share #26 Â Posted August 27, 2010 with mine the paiting comes off beneath at the corners and the control buttoms loose their letters. leica said i should send it in, first time they have heart of that problem. i carry it in my pans, inside a bag made of microtissue (from some glasses). took like 5000 pics since march

ChiILX1 Posted August 27, 2010 Author Share #31  Posted August 27, 2010 Was it this one? Jim' Marshall's M4  No but it looked almost just like that. It was this guy's: Paul D'Amato  He gave me his contact info after we talked since he noticed my Leica.
vicpeh Posted August 27, 2010 Share #32 Â Posted August 27, 2010 Where do you live? Â Sunny Singapore. The X1 stays in the dry box when not in use with the other cameras. Never had such a problem with the rest.

And I do have a NEX which I use with M lenses to compare
jorismichielsen Posted August 27, 2010 Share #34 Â Posted August 27, 2010 Problems with flash that is stuck inside the camera and not popping up. I do not use flash so often, but just the idea (that it is not working & to get the camera back to the dealer for repair). everything else excellent
ChiILX1 Posted August 28, 2010 Author Share #35 Â Posted August 28, 2010 I'm torn- should I send mine back to Leica to have them replace the LCD cover, then buy a giotto's cover for it? I don't think it should have scratched that easily and I'm majorly disappointed. They should do that for free I figure since it's so weak that the cloth scratched it. Â And what would it take to have them fix a metal knick in the top part by the on switch in the magnesium that cuts my finger? Would they have to replace the whole casing? Is it worth it? The thing that bothers me is that it's so noticeable yet so small.... and I swear I didn't do it. Â Is it worth it or does someone have a chill pill they can recommend? I want to stop losing sleep over this. My girlfriend says some things should look like you use them, and I agree, but this camera seems different and its bugging me. I think it is the same with cars, dents and stuff are sure to appear so unless you keep the X1 in a box and not use it battle scars are inevitable, and attractive to me. My watch i:ps the same story, when sending for servicing I will tell them specifically to clean up all internal components and leave the scratches on the watch, but maybe thats just me! For my camera off to NJ asap.  I had to send a camera to NJ a couple of years ago for a CLA - be sure to get it there before the Christmas holidays. I had sent mine in early December and didn't get it back until late January.

Are Alfa-Romeo making the bodies for Leica? Â This is depressing guys. I understand that Leica needs to make a profit but cutting corners like this isn't acceptable. I just sold my 1957 Leica IIIg and it didn't have any rust whatsoever. That, and I sold it for $1000. I love my X1 but 5 years from now, this is going to be a $500 camera at best. There is power in numbers and these Leica forums should be used to encourage Leica to not only make great cameras (which they do) but to make them without compromising build quality (which they do too). If enough of us speak up, they will listen. The rust on the hotshoe leaves me speachless.

I seriously think even a great camera like the X1 will be technologically obsolete in no time, so better take more pictures while we are at it. Â I doubt many of us will still be clinging to out X1 in 2 years, let alone 5.
