allamande Posted August 25, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 25, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...life goes on. This one is from Yosemite (Tuolumne Meadows). I used tonemapping (gimp) and actually wanted to post this in Dave's thread (for tonemapped images) but couldn't find it . Ece
Advertisement Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Hi allamande, Take a look here In the forest.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pop Posted August 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 25, 2010 That must be one of the most lost threads: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-post-processing-forum/131896-tone-mapping-before-after.html Ece - this one is very nice. That stump really jumps out.
allamande Posted August 26, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted August 26, 2010 Philipp, Thank you! I guess I was looking for the thread in the wrong place. I think these dead tree trunks stand just as beautifully as the living trees. I suspect lightning takes them out (but not entirely, it turns out). I wanted to emphasize it a bit, and I am glad I still remembered how to run this black box. (note to self: do more experimenting) Ece
stuny Posted August 26, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 26, 2010 Ece - Beautiful for composition, detail, depth, light and color.
daveleo Posted August 26, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 26, 2010 Ece i like the very painterly look of this, esp that the painted styling is now my latest interest (studying up on Winslow Homer. Andrew Wyeth and Mary Cassat this week ). your image here is most excellent. hope you can put the before and after versions in the "tone map" thread if you get a chance. pauledell Posted August 27, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 27, 2010 Ece, A wonderful shot that, like Dave said, looks like a fine painting. Lovely colors, sharpness and composition. Paul

allamande Posted August 27, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted August 27, 2010 Stuart, Dave, Paul, and Virgil, I am happy to know that you enjoyed what I tried to do with this wonderful scene. I appreciate your thoughts and comments, and your feedback means a lot. Dave, I posted the before and after in your thread today. I am also experimenting using a combination of LR3 and CS4 to achieve this painterly look (like you, I feel more comfortable if I understand the process, and GIMP is still a black box for me at this point with only small portions in decipherable light -and that's only thanks to Philipp's helpings). Ferry Zievinger Posted August 27, 2010 Share #11 Posted August 27, 2010 Simply popping! When I look from a distance the trunk is as if it loose from the rest of the environment, it is the model of this photo shoot. Good work, I am sure it took a couple of hours to get this result? allamande Posted August 30, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted August 30, 2010 Herb, Doc, Ferry, Thank you very much for looking in and for your generous comments. Ferry, in this case it didn't take me any time because I used GIMP (see thread Dave started on tonemapping in Digital Processing section) with slight color adjusting in LR. Trying to do similar work using CS4 can sometimes be quite time consuming, but rewarding too (because of the control it affords). Ece
