I tend to resample upwards with Photoshop Elements...

What does this mean and how do you do it in Photoshop Elements? What does it give you that a smaller file does not? I presume you are not creating extra resolution out of nothing...

Actually that's the way it's done. Consider that a printer resolves 1440 DPI so at 19 inches wide you have 27360 dots wide. Since the image is 4272 pixels wide, that's a *lot* of interpolation.

This is interesting. I thought that best quality was 300 DPI (this being the maximum the unaided eye can differentiate). If this is right - why 1440 dpi?
