Xmas Posted August 7, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 7, 2010 Hi Only the ones sold to military should have the contract number on them... The term 'Seller refurbished' seems strange... Noel
norgas_co Posted August 7, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 7, 2010 Curious about that particular ke-7a in the link. If you notice the brown paper wrapper has markings in red print, marvellum company marvel seal with lot#. If you notice most other ke-7a seen for sale have their paper wrap with black printed markings, marked as "camera still picture" and the numbers, similar to those printed on the box. Any insights regarding the markings in this paper wrap and why it's different?

Xmas Posted August 7, 2010 Share #10 Posted August 7, 2010 Isn't it just a relabelled M4-2??? Guy Probably not, the kit lens, self timer, back door, top plate and build quality look like an M4, the premium on a normal black chrome, or black paint, M4 is for military contract serial, box, documentation, and condition etc. It would have been cheaper for the guv to buy retail with fed discount. Robert J Posted August 9, 2010 Share #14 Posted August 9, 2010 Thanks Noel. Still a hefty price for an M that will probably never be used. This seller is well known for the often outrageous asking prices for the rare items they list on ebay.I've seen some of this seller's items go for several years without being sold. adan Posted August 15, 2010 Share #18 Posted August 15, 2010 As to "seller refurbished," more experienced ebay-ers can correct me, but I think that that is now a multiple-choice entry from which one has to select when listing an item. I.E. the wording choice is E-bay's, and if one wants to designate a certain condition, one is stuck with using their wording. I've seen that precise wording on more and more listings recently, thus my theory that it is a "forced choice" As to the camera in question - there may have been 500 or so made originally. But there may be only a dozen that still are a complete kit - matched lens and body, unique shade and cap, full set of boxing, and official military field manual. And in extremely clean condition. It is the difference between buying a house with a sign on the front saying "George Washington slept here" - and buying a house that comes with the page from Washington's diary in which he mentions sleeping there, plus a sketch by a local artist dated 1777 of GW and Martha in front of the house, plus a pair of boots in one of the closets with "Geo. Washington" scribbled on the inside in verifiable handwriting. The sum is greater than the whole of the parts, at least to a collector (not to me ) Finally, it is a Buy-it-now offer which means the seller is asking whatever he wants. Not the same as a bid. I think the seller (shphoto - nuernberg) is the same company that bought out Leica's last stock of R equipment, and from the looks of other sales on the Bay and on their web site, they have a good source (Leica itself? Employees?) for factory prototypes and other rarities and collectibilia.
