nyckylim Posted August 3, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted August 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, Â I realised that our camera is able to set 1/30 as the lowest shutter to use while set in Auto ISO. Â However, does anyone, like me, have unstable hands and find that 1/30 is not enough for a sharp picture ? Anyone knows how to change it to 1/40 ? Â Thanks Nycky

JanCderidder Posted August 3, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted August 3, 2010 1/30th works fine for me, I wouldn't of guessed so either. I use the strap as a stabilization thingie though, this works too

Anyone knows how to change it to 1/40 ?  Thanks Nycky  Well, you could hack the processor and re-write the code. Otherwise, you're stuck with three choices: 1/8, 1/15 and 1/30. h00ligan Posted August 3, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted August 3, 2010 If the dene can bear it you can underexpose by a bit and bring it back. I know its not preferred.
nyckylim Posted August 4, 2010 Author Share #5 Â Posted August 4, 2010 But, is everyone doing ok with 1/30 ?
sikde Posted August 4, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted August 4, 2010 Personally I would prefer 1/50 at the very least. I find the auto ISO function within Nikon DSLRs to be very good - it allows you to set max ISO in 1/3 increments and whatever shutterspeed you desire. nyckylim Posted August 4, 2010 Author Share #7 Â Posted August 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) nikon's software seems pretty useful. yup. would definitely love it if my x1 can be set to 1/50.
h00ligan Posted August 4, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted August 4, 2010 They definitely should (and can) ad 1/3 step, it would be a big win IMHO. I ran into this tonight shooting a cake and some flowers for my girlfriends birthday (she wanted pics) and it wasn't the first time I wished for the epl1 and panny 20mm (a very good combo for food photography IMHO). Ibis and 1.7 = crazy low shutter speed for static object.
khiromu Posted August 4, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted August 4, 2010 I also want to it faster than 1/30, but different reason. When my subject is stable, 1/30 is fine, but when in motion, 1/30 is not fast enough to stop the motion (for example, shooting my kids...). h00ligan Posted August 4, 2010 Share #11 Â Posted August 4, 2010 But also has an iso limitation.

It's not like the X1 is so close to perfect that this is a rare kind of omission. Just think of those 'automatic' settings as an optical illusion. h00ligan Posted August 4, 2010 Share #13 Â Posted August 4, 2010 Yah that's what I usually do Bob. Thanks though!

Dan States Posted August 5, 2010 Share #15 Â Posted August 5, 2010 I would use it in Shutter priority with auto iso. Just a thought. Who knows, this could be a firmware update in the future. ( Oh, I forgot, there is no possible way to update the X1's firmware:D)
khiromu Posted August 5, 2010 Share #16  Posted August 5, 2010 that's why IS can kick in at 1/30 or below  ??? IS cannot stop subject motion, right? And I am fine with 1/30 for stable subject...  Maybe I am missing something,
nyckylim Posted August 5, 2010 Author Share #17 Â Posted August 5, 2010 Ok. Maybe my hands are the ones at fault. Haha.
tom0511 Posted August 10, 2010 Share #18 Â Posted August 10, 2010 I have the same problem and allready told Leica and hope they might integrate it via firmware. The M9 you can set to other times so why not the x1. I want at least 1/125. Until then the only way I see is to set the time and use aparture automatic mode- however this means often 2.8 - so its just a compromise. This has to be changed IMO-otherwise ISO auto is not usefull for me.
regedit Posted August 10, 2010 Share #19 Â Posted August 10, 2010 an old photographer teach me a trick years ago. to get shake free pictures (there where no anti-shake in that ages) set exposure speed 1/focal (example on a 60 focal for a steady shot speed should be 1/60). Â as X1 is 35 fixed focal, 1/30 seems to be a bit forced but I assume anti-shake can compensate. Â of course, in some cases 1/30 it's not enough to freeze the shot, at that speed my kids always got blurry hands.
