Ecaton Posted August 2, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted August 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Â I was wondering whether there M8 or M9 users who abandoned their digital M (sold it or simply don't use it anymore) for the X1. And are there X1 users who are considering trading up to a digital M.
Advertisement Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Hi Ecaton, Take a look here M8/9 users going X1 or vice versa?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JanCderidder Posted August 2, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted August 2, 2010 I stopped using my M8 even before I bought the X1.... In all fairness though I have just recently come to terms with digital photography, comparing to film and slides with addition of a deep hatred for PP never gave the M8 a chance. I still have it though and brought it out last weekend with the 35 cron... I do prefer my X1 though even despite the slow AF. I like AF even if slow and I think the X1 makes a very job of it....... I will be an X1 fanboy, at least until the X2 is introduced.... :-)
mr_bom Posted August 3, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted August 3, 2010 I'm the one who's obtaining the x1 and looking forward to be an M user.
LeicaBraz Posted August 3, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted August 3, 2010 Have M8/M9 and X1 - lately using M9 and X1, which are different cameras for different uses in different occasions. I also shoot my MP with film from time to time!! Rgds
bocaburger Posted August 3, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted August 3, 2010 **Caution: Contrarian Viewpoint** Â With it so close to the cost of a used M8, I can't find a single compelling reason for me to want an X1. Saving my pennies for a used M9 when it's completely debugged, and the price comes way down.

i would agree with you = if i had some glass to go w/ the m8.... but when you add glass..... and the ir filters... not even a close contest...  im staying w/my x1.... if i want a big shiny zoom lens i'll get a clux or vlux and throw it in my coat pocket to take that very long distance shot
stephen.w Posted August 3, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted August 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just take a look at the M8 forum to see how many threads there are about M8's packing up. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/133673-just-how-many-m8s-go-wrong.html I also considered a used M8 instead of an X1, but I'm now glad I went with the latter. h00ligan Posted August 3, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted August 3, 2010 I'd love to move to an m9 but it's five times the cost at minimum. Even the m8 is twice the price with glass.
Sergius Posted August 3, 2010 Share #9 Â Posted August 3, 2010 I'd love to move to an m9 but it's five times the cost at minimum. Even the m8 is twice the price with glass. Â I quote !
Cerrito Kid Posted August 7, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted August 7, 2010 I would probably change from my X1 to the M9 if I won the lottery.
F1Addict Posted August 7, 2010 Share #11 Â Posted August 7, 2010 I absolutely love my X1, but have been giving some serious thought to an M8.2 that a local owner has for sale. Just something about the "M" that keeps me looking at it. Not as a replacement to my X1, an addition to the family.
Ecaton Posted August 7, 2010 Author Share #12 Â Posted August 7, 2010 I'd love to move to an m9 but it's five times the cost at minimum. Even the m8 is twice the price with glass. Â Â Used M8, USD 2000-2500 & used CV lenses, e.g. 28mm/f2.0 & 50mm (f1.1 or 1.5) =USD2700-3200. VF included . Excellent MF & ZF included. Versatility included. With different, but still excellent CV lenses, costs are lower, eg CV 35mm Skopar & CV 75mm Heliar. Â X1 USD 1995 & VF & Grip=approx USD 2500. The M can be ones main camera system, the X1 not. Â In this case, the price difference is irrelevant in my opinion.

Ecaton Posted August 7, 2010 Author Share #14 Â Posted August 7, 2010 On the other hand the x1has much better high iso. Â Agreed. So in an ideal world, one should have both:D.
ohnri Posted August 7, 2010 Share #15 Â Posted August 7, 2010 M9 with the latest NR software is pretty good at high ISO. Â Kinda pricey though. Â -Bill
wda Posted August 7, 2010 Share #16 Â Posted August 7, 2010 I was a late adopter of the M8 when on special offer before it was no longer available new. It is simply a super camera. As I have reported several times earlier, I find the X1 complements the M8 as a very versatile two-camera kit. But, on non-photography outings, the X1 holds its head up high and becomes my prime choice.
mah Posted August 7, 2010 Share #17 Â Posted August 7, 2010 I am more using my X1 than my M9 on occasions that X1 would be a good performer! Â The Thames... | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
h00ligan Posted August 8, 2010 Share #18 Â Posted August 8, 2010 Sorry. My high iso comment was in reference to the m8 as a comparison.

Ecaton Posted August 8, 2010 Author Share #20 Â Posted August 8, 2010 I think having invested in a M-camera, most would prefer Leica lenses instead of CV? Â Sure, and so do I. But CV offers affordable quite excellently performing alternatives. I tried to make the case that money alone should not be the decisive factor when choosing between X1 or used M8. And as M8 prices have probably bottomed, a M8 plus lenses might hold their values better than a X1.
