lex665 Posted August 1, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 1, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) hi I just got back my leica mp after a long period of waiting to get repaired... it's great to have her back... I'm new to leica...been unhappy such a long wait for parts to say I only have owned her a few months....bought mint copy 2nd hand I can't remember if the camera operated like this before. when I put the camera in off/b position if you touch the shutter release button the exposure/shutter balance display lights up in view finder (one triangle) and if I cover the lens it blinks Im pretty sure this means the camera off switch is not working...any help greatly appreciated thanks:)

redbaron Posted August 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 1, 2010 It thinks you have the lens cap on, so it blinks to remind you.
aesop Posted August 1, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 1, 2010 It thinks you have the lens cap on, so it blinks to remind you. ...sorry to contradict you, redbaron, but the exposure meter is turned off in the B/OFF setting, hence the diode should not flash. No diodes should come on when the shutter speed dial is in the B/OFF position. lex66, please refer to pages 94-95 of the MP manual for further clarification. And welcome to the forum. lex665 Posted August 1, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted August 1, 2010 Thanks aesop... I thought I might have to have shutter uncocked in off/b position....to work...so there must be something wrong with her then...back to the repairer...leica is becoming "not leica"....bugger!! Guest dk_samurai Posted August 3, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 3, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) back to the repairer...leica is becoming "not leica"....bugger!! Welcome to the forum, and welcome to the disappointing world of Leica repair service. I sent in a 28mm 'cron for servicing in March, but then in June parts of the lens came lose. I also bought a brand new 50mm 'lux in May, and three weeks later the apeture ring sticks. I sent them both in under warranty... took 7 weeks to repair. Leica makes wonderful cameras - when they work. Be prepared to wait a long time when sending things in for service! /David PS.: Yes, the MP meter should not light up when in the B/OFF setting. Be prepared to wait a long time when sending things in for service! /David PS.: Yes, the MP meter should not light up when in the B/OFF setting. ...not necessarily the case, David. Repair times usually depend on one or a combination of the following factors: 1) where you send the item (i.e. staffing issues); 2) availability of required replacement parts; and, 3) the actual nature of the repair (any "special" processes involved?). I am not a Leica apologist, but have had turnarounds that ranged from a couple of hours (literally) to 4 months. Before the item went in for repair, I had a fair idea what sort of waiting time I would have to contend with - and to be fair to Leica, good or bad news was delivered in a professional manner. And for each case, I requested and received regular updates - in other words, I fully understood what was going on. However, I do agree that, by all accounts (personal experience and hearsay), QC is not quite what it used to be.<sigh>
