AlanJW Posted August 3, 2010 Share #42 Posted August 3, 2010 Ya think? But, rumors eventually turn out to be right or wrong...good sources or bad. Based on above post, which I just saw, seems they were 'almost' right. Jeff When I was in the army we had a practice of considering all good rumors false and and all bad rumors true. It is a good way to avoid disappointment.

hoppyman Posted August 4, 2010 Share #44 Posted August 4, 2010 Not to worry, like King Canute ordering the ocean to retreat, at some point the rumour will be true :)
XK50 Posted August 4, 2010 Share #45 Posted August 4, 2010 Am prompted by leicarumors (and slightly tongue in cheek) to suggest it's a business decision to delay its availability until Photokina, in order to soften the blow of a 9.2 announcement. adli Posted August 4, 2010 Share #46 Posted August 4, 2010 It would be meaningless from a business perspective to introduce an M9.2 as long as demand heavily exceeds supply on their current model.

Lux asph 50, Lux asph 35, Apo Cron 90, lux 21, lux 24, nocti on backorder worldwide. X1 and M9 demand red hot. Don't know about the S2. So , why should they and where would the resources (people, capacity) come from?
leicashot Posted August 4, 2010 Share #48 Posted August 4, 2010 It would be meaningless from a business perspective to introduce an M9.2 as long as demand heavily exceeds supply on their current model. Agreed, I would be pissed if Leica released an update to the M9 only 1 year later, and months after I received my M9.
erlingmm Posted August 4, 2010 Share #49 Posted August 4, 2010 Agreed, I would be pissed if Leica released an update to the M9 only 1 year later, and months after I received my M9. I think we need to come to terms with the fact that we live in a digital world. New models are coming all the time. The new models often cost less, and give more. The only thing you know when you buy a piece of electronics (sorry to use that term about a Leica camera) is that after a while it will be yesterday's model. Which does not make the one you have less useful or useable. Leica has had a somewhat slower product cycle than other digital camera manufacturers. This has good and bad aspects for the existing users - people seem basically happy with what they get, but at the same time the creativity and complaing about what should be, never stops. Be careful, Leica might listen...
zeitz Posted August 4, 2010 Share #50 Posted August 4, 2010 Just remember Leica is much better at announcing new models than they are at actually producing new models. (Maybe this should be moved to the S2 section, the all time leader is non-production of promised lenses.)

Ask the last buyers of the M8.2... they were very happy in september 2009...
Jeff S Posted August 4, 2010 Author Share #52 Posted August 4, 2010 Ask the last buyers of the M8.2... they were very happy in september 2009... I was quite happy, actually, and even more when the M9 (and other new Leica gear) started selling so well. It better ensured the longevity of my investment, servicing, production of new lenses, and either a chance to maybe buy an M9.2 or M10 one day or, if not, to get a cheaper used M9 if I so desire (just as the used M8.2s are now cheaper). Never look back. Enjoy making photographs with the gear you have. There is always something new, as long as the company survives. The philosophy hasn't let me down for many decades. adli Posted August 5, 2010 Share #53 Posted August 5, 2010 Ask the last buyers of the M8.2... they were very happy in september 2009... But sales of the M8.2 never reached the volumes of the M9. Besides it had the same cropped sensor of the M8. The market for a new camera with FF was huge compared to the M8.2 market. A new M9.2 will not boost sales in the same way. Pebbble Posted August 5, 2010 Share #54 Posted August 5, 2010 I got LR3 today. Is there an idito's summary of what the changes are between 3 and the 2 version? As for an M9.2 or M10, I take comfort in the fact that the M9 will go down in history as the first full frame digital rf. That in itself would make up for not having the latest whizz tech in the next upgrade or two
