JanCderidder Posted July 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) don't really have a case instead of having used the X1 as well as the GF1 and theX1 images are supreme.... people tend to talk money, fine if you don't have it, but if you do whats the complaint, slow AF... well we know that when we bought it, nevertheless it produces images which cannot be compared to any other small form big sensor camera... And what really strikes me is that there are people with a 20k+ camera collection (if you would believe them) complaining about the price... I really don't get this
Advertisement Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Hi JanCderidder, Take a look here Why all this X1 negativity?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Dan States Posted July 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 21, 2010 Leica forums have always attracted the "piss in your oatmeal" types. Misery does love company you know and they want you to share theirs. If you have an X1 you know they are morons.

For a premium product, asking for the technically possible is more than appropriate. Eg state of the art AF speed, Pana with the GF1 or Sony with the Nex show what is possible. Better MF functionality, look at the Ricoh GXR and Sigma DP how it can be done. Better screen. Build quality, battery door, skin, "loose" dials, many others seem to be better when it comes to manufacturing tolerances and QC! Would I buy my X1 again? Absolutely! But with a few more development Euros spend, Leica could easily have avoided these unnecessary warts. It's that simple. Besides above easy fixes (maybe except boosting AF speed) a X1.2 with pop up optical VF with AF confirmation, instead of the pop up flash would be great. caugustin Posted July 21, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 21, 2010 This idea of having a pop-up optical VF instead of the flash is interesting. I never thought about that before. I'm not sure if it is really viable (but if I need a flash, there would be the socket for it, hmm). After all a VF is smaller than an external flash ... jsrockit Posted July 21, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 21, 2010 JanCderidder ... didn't your little review of the X1 start by talking about the shortcomings of the X1? http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-x1-forum/132277-first-time-leica-x1-user.html
Jelico Posted July 21, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 21, 2010 Yeah, pop-up VF instead of flash is a great idea. I don't use flash at all....

The shortcomings therefor are of no-, or very little importance to me at least. Some are faster, others have a bigger screen, but none have a continuously good IQ, colour rendition, white balance setting and dynamic range. I will always choose for the IQ qualities .... and with the X1 I thinks it's worth the price one pays for it
Danielsan Posted July 21, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 21, 2010 correct, in the end only IQ matters, i wanna see the pictures from a camera not the camera itself. There is just no other camera like this at the moment. whats the deal in buying a nex5 with a great screen but not so good IQ? Its pointless

JanCderidder Posted July 31, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted July 31, 2010 My wife, whom seldom takes photos is using the X1 for she love the color rendition and the lens-length. She has it in her bag and has ordered a Luigi case.... I bought another, so we have 2 in the household.

macbodock Posted August 1, 2010 Share #15 Posted August 1, 2010 Hello All, I am new to the site and I am so drooling over the X1 and I am so jealous of those who do have one. As a Nikon user who has not picked up a camera in 25 years, I am so looking forward to getting back into this. There is nothing negative that I can say about the X1 from everything that I have read even with a few short comings this camera sounds like an excellent choice for some in between a consumer and a pro. Prosumer. I look forward to read your comments on this forum. Now let me go wipe the drool from my mouth...
JeTexas Posted August 2, 2010 Share #16 Posted August 2, 2010 I think most casual photographers don't really know what to make of the X1. Most digital compact users are now used having a 12x zoom at their fingertips. They probably feel limited by the set focal length. Most DSLR users are screaming, where's the viewfinder? I just got mine on Saturday, and while I love it, since it's already too large to fit in a pocket, I would have gladly traded a little more size in return for a built-in viewfinder. Manually focusing while staring at an LCD screen is going to take some time to feel normal. I'm hoping it will eventually become second nature, but while I can focus an SLR in a split second, it's taking me what feels like forever to scroll that thumb dial and focus the image on the screen. That's my only complaint so far.

Most of my contemporaries need reading glasses my wife cannot read a menu anymore w/o glasses so for most to use the camera they a) autofocus - which just doesnt seem right or take a picture like a zombie and manual focus.... i wear contacts so it doesnt bother me
macbodock Posted August 2, 2010 Share #18 Posted August 2, 2010 The 1st camera I ever used was a Yashica Electro 35, which was a 35mm camera with a viewfinder and a non-changeable lens. It took some good pictures and I remember at the time a friend of mine drooling over a Nikromat. While he was making fun of the Yashica Electro 35 that was furnished for me to take pictures for the Yearbook... The year was 1977, fast forward to today and not much has changed... How could you take pictures with just a standard lens... Mine zooms to _____X____ times. Yea I hear ya bragging... Give me an X1... I would love to see what I could do with it... Just Sayin! I"m actually building out my canon prime collection. I do have a 15-85 for a walk around lens, but I foresee selling that at some point. Currently I am drooling over the canon 35/1.2 :/ Anyway, I'm 34 - and relatively new to photography.. and I prefer primes. To me they make more sense (especially with current DSLR mp counts). I generally know what I'm going to shoot - and take the appropriate lens(es). Also strange, I find generally shots I take with primes are framed MUCH better than shots where I'm zooming. I wouldn't be surprised to be the odd one out though. I'm presently trying to convince myself that I went all wrong with the 7d and x1 and TOTALLY need an m9.... I doubt I'll be able to fool myself into that thought at my level OTOH, if the consulting picks up... I'm absolutely getting an m9
JanCderidder Posted August 3, 2010 Author Share #20 Posted August 3, 2010 The X1 is the only camera I have used for the past months/weeks, since I got it actually. I'm not trying to make a point but its the single most convenient camera I'v ever used. This has to do with the IQ (once you've found the best personal settings configuration) and its size/weight.
