Amazon.com: GGS Optical Glass LCD Screen Protector 2.7" for Digital Cameras Canon, Nikon, Pentax Sony Olympus: Camera & Photo  ebay man, and cheap. Danielsan Posted July 20, 2010 Share #22  Posted July 20, 2010 I don't think you would ever want to use an abrasive on a CD.But glass if different - with scratches on glass you're not necessarily filling them in, you're removing some glass around them. i thought the X1 LCD is plastic like most LCD covers, is it glass? Another question, the X1 LCD Screens looks like it have kind of a blueish shine in certain angles, what is this? My X1 is preorderd, so i dont have one yet.

It helps a little bit, but doesn't replace the viewfinder. But anyway, if you take good care of your camera, as I always did with any of my cameras, you'll enjoy it for many years. This one may even last after you.
nippa Posted July 20, 2010 Share #25 Â Posted July 20, 2010 Hi, I have no scratches on mine, and, when I'm not shooting, it stays in its leather case most of the time.. Â Mine stays in the ERC but in the bright light of Greece I clearly saw a shallow arc where the camera rubbed against my shirt buttons. Oddlly I don't see the same thing with my DLux4 or GF-1 which are treated in just the same way leading me to conclude that this particular LCD screen is softer than many. Â Of course softness can be good. A saphire screen although resistant to marking is very brittle and will crack if knocked. Conversely this screen should be able to take a knock but looks like it will scratch easily. Â At least new owners can be made aware of this now and stick a guard over the screen. Nicoleica Posted July 20, 2010 Share #28 Â Posted July 20, 2010 Wooo! Those are some serious scratches. After seeing the damage to the buttons etc., I'd be surprised if any kind of screen would have faired better.

jsrockit Posted July 21, 2010 Share #34 Â Posted July 21, 2010 I don't think it is that bad really. I understand you feeling sad about it, but it is still in working condition. I have a feeling the repair is going to cost you a lot of cash.
Danielsan Posted July 21, 2010 Share #35  Posted July 21, 2010 My mind would also die when i had to löok at it every day, i would even pay 400 Euro or so to repair it, this is nightmare

h00ligan Posted July 30, 2010 Share #37 Â Posted July 30, 2010 Well, I just received my eBay ordered ggs. If they aren't knockoffs (they may be) then ggs fit sucks. The 2.7 is not the right size for the x1 and the one made specifically for the 7d has play. On both cameras they would obscure screen view (albeit by millimeters). Maybe I am being too picky, but first impression is bad and as of now, I apologize for pointing it out to others.
msbel Posted July 30, 2010 Share #38  Posted July 30, 2010 Wouldn't you know it, I was shooting the X1 today, and noticed I must have put a scratch across the entire screen. Probably my fault (it was in a Billi bag with a M6, and I thought I had them separated with a pad.)  Never been a big fan of screen covers. All the films I have tried eventually fall off or smudge worse. Not used a hard cover before...maybe I will try that. Seems to offer more protection than the occasional rub.  I want to know this... is it Leica going cheap, or are all LCD camera screens prone to this happening (not a crack, a faint scratch) regardless of manufacturer, and regardless of  Usually, I don't care. My M8/D4 have been through real hell, and some battle scars on the screens for sure. But this X1 is so pretty, I don't want to smack it up!  (Looked at my totally abused D300 just now, and no scratches!)
ChiILX1 Posted July 30, 2010 Share #39 Â Posted July 30, 2010 Too many times something like this has happened where trying to fix it just makes things worse. Take it from me- send it to Leica or you may end up crying on the floor by the end of the night with an amplified or multiplied problem.
nippa Posted July 30, 2010 Share #40 Â Posted July 30, 2010 Â Never having used an LCD Guard before I thought I'd rely on Red Dot Cameras' ( London ) choice of a ACMAXX LCD Armour Hard Poly-Carbonate Screen Protector. Â Not sure if I like the chrome trim but everything else is very good. It's a solid piece of plastic with adhesive only under the chrome trim. You can adjust and remove it easily after warming with a hairdryer. Perhaps not the cheapest option but it matches the camera quality. Â No bubbles with this type
