I just installed a forum extension that allows to give a quick "Thank you" for another user's post.

Still needs some translations and graphic make over.

How do you like it?

Best regards from Bonn

Andreas

i like the idea of a "thank you" button if someone's post or answer etc. was useful, well researched etc.

i do think it might be useful to have a button for the photo forums, as a way of saying "well done" or expressing general approval without writing a comment similar to those earlier in the thread.

if the button said "thank you/well done" or similar words, it could be used in text and photo forums without further work. (?)

"thank you"

Dinky. Whats the thanks button actually for? Save people who are too lazy to respond? Some browny points system? Big brother? Whens the iApp coming for the true believers?

Whats this thing that seems to creep in about the place?

It's a great idea. I'm a member of another forum that has had a Thanks button for a while and it has worked very nicely. It is much easier to say thanks this way. And it doesn't clutter up threads with short comments like "+1", "+2", etc.

I see that Rob and Rolo have got the idea. :)

Personally I would like a "No thanks" button, which could be used for all those photos which really should not be here (and for some of the daft threads which I have started).

I don't see this as a value-added feature, I suspect that it will just become another race which the folks who rack up huge numbers of posts will enter. I was amazed when there were demands for the post-counter to be carried over from the old forum software; just don't get it. :(

i think Pandora's box has opened . . . at least one more button is needed (thumbs down, no words) and the "thanks" word needs to be deleted from the thumbs up button.

the buttons then become generic and can mean both "thanks for your help" and also "nice photo"

counting? . . . counting ? . . . too silly.

Let's take full advantage of the technology and have a :

Thanks ~ excellent light, color, detail, selective focus, composition and presentation.

THANKS BUTTON :D

Save an awful lot of typing.

Plus, a reminder, Thanks, I want a Visoflex. Frank. button ?

Have I missed any ? What about Financial advice for Leica, Canon, Nikon, M10 suggestions ....... buttons ?

It feels like the forum is now doing my wording for me and it also seems to be promoting the use of "thank you" to serve multiple meanings.

What will be next? Perhaps a menu of potential responses that I might want to give? All I have to do is click the appropriate button?

If typing a personalized comment is too much trouble, just click the appropriate button, and be counted!

It's all about stats, without meaning. No thanks!

Data is stats.. telling us all kinds of interesting stuff about the world.

But, maybe this is kind of un-commonly funny, as it is a quick save some time and click, feature, in a forum dedicated to semi artistic engineering types,

all of whom have something more accurate to express than "just thanks" something more along the line of "excellent light, color, detail, selective focus, composition and presentation."

I find myself compelled to press the "thanks" button again and again as a agreeable "nodding in agreement" gesture to words of interest.

Maybe I could suggest a improved functionality. how about setting a default "thanks" for lars's fine thoughts on hardware and Ben's lovely portraiture, this could save me a lot of time and should not be too difficult software wise.? Naturally Rollo and so many others also deserve a auto-thanks.

Thank you for listening to my rant.

All excellent ideas! Good to hear from you Bo. May I also suggest a small prize for those who click the most Thanks in a given hour? That would promote further the helping instinct in people, and hopefully extinguish their desire to keep bumping their threads (and therefore inflating their numbers) with silly personalized thank you messages.
