rickp13 Posted July 13, 2010 Share #21 Posted July 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just installed a forum extension that allows to give a quick "Thank you" for another user's post. Still needs some translations and graphic make over. How do you like it? Best regards from Bonn Andreas i like the idea of a "thank you" button if someone's post or answer etc. was useful, well researched etc. i do think it might be useful to have a button for the photo forums, as a way of saying "well done" or expressing general approval without writing a comment similar to those earlier in the thread. if the button said "thank you/well done" or similar words, it could be used in text and photo forums without further work. (?) "thank you" rick

Whens the iApp coming for the true believers? Whats this thing that seems to creep in about the place? ........ Welcome, dear visitor! rob_x2004 Posted July 14, 2010 Share #23 Posted July 14, 2010 Thanks. I worked it out. Its turned it into a much more interactive experience! Apologies if I missed anyones thanks button, it seems to make things a bit laggy so the thanks dont always stick. I'll come back for more later. zlatkob Posted July 14, 2010 Share #24 Posted July 14, 2010 It's a great idea. I'm a member of another forum that has had a Thanks button for a while and it has worked very nicely. It is much easier to say thanks this way. And it doesn't clutter up threads with short comments like "+1", "+2", etc.
elansprint72 Posted July 14, 2010 Share #25 Posted July 14, 2010 I see that Rob and Rolo have got the idea. Personally I would like a "No thanks" button, which could be used for all those photos which really should not be here (and for some of the daft threads which I have started). I don't see this as a value-added feature, I suspect that it will just become another race which the folks who rack up huge numbers of posts will enter. I was amazed when there were demands for the post-counter to be carried over from the old forum software; just don't get it.
jaapv Posted July 14, 2010 Author Share #26 Posted July 14, 2010 Yepp, still some work to do... Andreas Can we do an "ignore thanks" feature to block unwelcome thanks?
daveleo Posted July 14, 2010 Share #27 Posted July 14, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) i think Pandora's box has opened . . . at least one more button is needed (thumbs down, no words) and the "thanks" word needs to be deleted from the thumbs up button. the buttons then become generic and can mean both "thanks for your help" and also "nice photo" counting? . . . counting ? . . . too silly. Rolo Posted July 14, 2010 Share #28 Posted July 14, 2010 Let's take full advantage of the technology and have a : Thanks ~ excellent light, color, detail, selective focus, composition and presentation. THANKS BUTTON Save an awful lot of typing. Plus, a reminder, Thanks, I want a Visoflex. Frank. button ? Have I missed any ? What about Financial advice for Leica, Canon, Nikon, M10 suggestions ....... buttons ?

Best regards from Bonn Andreas Andreas, that's great, thanks for point it out. LouisB
peter_n Posted July 14, 2010 Share #30 Posted July 14, 2010 How do you like it?Don't like it at all! Are we adults here or little kids? Sorry if I got this wrong! No thanks - silly idea!Couldn't agree more!

allamande Posted July 14, 2010 Share #32 Posted July 14, 2010 It feels like the forum is now doing my wording for me and it also seems to be promoting the use of "thank you" to serve multiple meanings. What will be next? Perhaps a menu of potential responses that I might want to give? All I have to do is click the appropriate button? If typing a personalized comment is too much trouble, just click the appropriate button, and be counted! It's all about stats, without meaning. No thanks! allamande Posted July 14, 2010 Share #38 Posted July 14, 2010 Choice is overrated. Particularly when the said button-clicking behavior will be kept track of and presented as "data" to indicate......whatever. Ece
Bo_Lorentzen Posted July 15, 2010 Share #39 Posted July 15, 2010 Data is stats.. telling us all kinds of interesting stuff about the world. But, maybe this is kind of un-commonly funny, as it is a quick save some time and click, feature, in a forum dedicated to semi artistic engineering types, all of whom have something more accurate to express than "just thanks" something more along the line of "excellent light, color, detail, selective focus, composition and presentation." I find myself compelled to press the "thanks" button again and again as a agreeable "nodding in agreement" gesture to words of interest. Maybe I could suggest a improved functionality. how about setting a default "thanks" for lars's fine thoughts on hardware and Ben's lovely portraiture, this could save me a lot of time and should not be too difficult software wise.? Naturally Rollo and so many others also deserve a auto-thanks. Thank you for listening to my rant. .

Naturally Rollo and so many others also deserve a auto-thanks. All excellent ideas! Good to hear from you Bo. May I also suggest a small prize for those who click the most Thanks in a given hour? That would promote further the helping instinct in people, and hopefully extinguish their desire to keep bumping their threads (and therefore inflating their numbers) with silly personalized thank you messages.
