The National Exhibition of Monochrome Photography opened this evening (9th July) and runs until the 17th July at the Summerfield Gallery, Cheltenham, GL52 3JG. It is the UK's only solely Monochrome Exhibition. This is supported this year by the HSBC Cheltenham Music Festival (Cheltenham Music Festival, tickets, events | Cheltenham Festivals), for which the renowned Cellist, Steven Isserlis, is the Guest Director.

In addition to the main Exhibition, there is a separate Exhibit called 'Aspects', which is intimately related to the Music Festival. This Exhibit features 16 signed (by the artist and photographer) images of the key performers taken at this years Music Festival. These represent the 16 days of the Music Festival. These include a picture of Isserlis by Isserlis (Father Steven at his £2m Stradivarius Cello taken by his son Gabriel). At the end of the Exhibition, the 16 signed images will be presented to the Music Festival to auction in aid of Young Musicians charities.

The Exhibition is open every day between 1000hrs and 1600 hrs. There will be a live classical music recital each day (weekdays & saturday 1400-1500 and sunday 1330-1430). If you are in the area, please come along.

Microview,

Thanks. The Cheltenham Music Festival still has that old feel to it. This year we have Steven Isserlis and Brett Dean as our Guest Directors. In addition, we have Alfred Brendel Freddy Kempff, Sarah Connolly, Alfie Boe, Michael Collins, Gunilla Sussman etc.

The 'Aspects' special exhibit is really exciting. A 'Picture a Day' project with 2 minutes a shoot to get a decent shot. All signed by the artists and the photographers and all in aid of charity.

I well remember evenings spent at the Cheltenham (Contemporary Music) Festivals in the 1950s, when you'd see Boult, Barbirolli, Vaughan Williams, Jacob Bronowski et al. Happy days!:)

You were very privileged to hear those concerts. What wonderful memories you must have.

Best wishes
