grillage Posted July 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know anything about the Leitz Leicina RT 1 camera? I also enjoy taking real movies with film and I bought this camera through E-Bay. Camera ia MINT and works perfect but there is a small slide switch on the left side, near the top of the camera and near the trigger release. I have tried to use this switch in numerous ways and nothing seems to change. It does look factory installed and the user manual says nothing about it. Also I need a new rubber lens hood and the thread is 54 mm. Very odd size and I can't find a replacement for this. ANY help at all with these two small problems would be greatly appreciated. Advertisement Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Hi grillage, Take a look here Leitz Leicina. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
doubice Posted July 8, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 8, 2010 The manual says nothing about it? Odd - can you post a picture of the switch? As to filter size - 54mm is Series VII and you should be able to find a 54mm to 55mm adapter on eBay. I'd do the search for you but my wife is ringing the supper bell and I have to run like mad....... Best, Jan
grillage Posted July 8, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted July 8, 2010 Just in case here is a photo of the camera. Again there is nothing shown or mentioned in the user manual. I have both the English and German version and they show nothing. Thanks Welcome, dear visitor! grillage Posted July 8, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted July 8, 2010 Hi! I sent you a private message too. Yes, that is the switch. If you can help me I would very much appreciate that!
luigi bertolotti Posted July 8, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 8, 2010 Sorry... trivial question: are really STILL available the Super 8 film cassettes ? I thought they wern't anymore around...
giordano Posted July 8, 2010 Share #7 Posted July 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just guessing: if you start the camera using the top release and then slide the mystery switch and let go of the release, does the camera keep running?
grillage Posted July 8, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted July 8, 2010 The slide switch has nothing to do with keeping the camera running. If I turn the TOP release clockwise and depress the button down it will keep running. I tried moving the switch back and forth and there were no changes. This is a tough one. I hope someone can help!!!
pop Posted July 8, 2010 Share #9 Posted July 8, 2010 I have looked at several pictures of the camera which I could find in the web. None has that switch. Also, the switch does not look entirely straight on your camera, as far as I can tell at the given resolution. My guess would be that your camera has been modified. In order to find out what the switch does, you'd probably have the open the camera and analyse the wires leading from the switch. Can the back side of the switch be seen through the battery compartment or the film cassette housing?
grillage Posted July 8, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted July 8, 2010 Hi! I can not see anything inside the film compartment. There is a plastic shield so no views of the inside of the camera is possible. The switch does seem straight but of course the photo is not perfect. If I can not get an answer from anyone I might have the camera serviced and once that is done the servive person can hopefully tell me what is going on. This is frustrating! Thanks anyhow!!! pop Posted July 8, 2010 Share #11 Posted July 8, 2010 On the other hand, you might just ignore the switch. I own many devices with switches I never touch, even if I can remember their functions. As long as all the functions work according to the manual, your Leicina is just a Leicina with an extra switch. Of course, If your curiosity doesn't let you sleep, you might look for a repair person who will open the camera for you and trace the wiring.
grillage Posted July 9, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted July 9, 2010 Hi Philipp! Okay, Maybe I will just use the camera for a bit and then when its 10 degrees outside I will send the camera to a shop for a "going over" and then they can trace the switch function. Thanks! earleygallery Posted July 9, 2010 Share #13 Posted July 9, 2010 Sorry... trivial question: are really STILL available the Super 8 film cassettes ? I thought they wern't anymore around... aesop Posted July 9, 2010 Share #14 Posted July 9, 2010 <snip>I have looked at several pictures of the camera which I could find in the web. None has that switch. My guess would be that your camera has been modified. ...furthermore, there is an extra black "button" below the frame speed selector (in the 5 o'clock position). All the images and instruction manuals I have seen of this model (Leitz Leicina Super RT1) clearly feature the three black "buttons" seen above the selector but no additional ones below. Intriguing, non? The plot thickens.
grillage Posted July 9, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted July 9, 2010 Those BLACK BUTTONS you see are covers. Inside are small ajustment screws for internal adjustments to be made by the technician.
earleygallery Posted July 9, 2010 Share #16 Posted July 9, 2010 Just a thought, it's not a lock for the exposure button is it?
