duende Posted July 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I am new here, and I want to thank all of you, because I am reading this forum for long time now, and took the decision to by a demo M8 with 28mm 2,8 ASPH at a very good price:). With the camera I got the C1 software, but it do not install on my Mac with Snow Leopard. What can I do? Do I have to by a new complete licence for the new C1 version, or is it better to stay with the LRoom software I have? For the kind of photos I do, mostly candid, I dont need the max details, simple workflow is more important.Thanks for help. 01af Posted July 7, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 7, 2010 You absolute don't need Capture One when you have Lightroom. LR is capable of handling M8 files just fine. The choice of a raw converter mostly is a personal thing. A simple and convenient workflow is Lightroom's strong point—and in version 3.0, detail rendition and roise reduction have been improved over versions 1 and 2. You may try downloading the current trial version of Capture One; if you find you like it better than Lightroom—which I think is unlikely considering your priorities—then you may purchase it as a upgrade to your older C1 version at a reduced price. However, when it comes to just converting your DNG, C1 gives better result. At least it did when I was trying both. For some reason, C1 produced sharper and more clear image, to my eyes. 01af Posted July 8, 2010 Share #14 Posted July 8, 2010 I think Capture One 5 and Lightroom 3 are same quality. Not quite the same ... but much closer now than they used to be. And with high ISO, ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) is the best. Camera Raw and Lightroom share the very same raw conversion engine inside so there's absolutely no quality difference in their results. duende Posted July 8, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted July 8, 2010 Thanks to all of you for the infos, I processed some files with LR 3, and must say the results are very good, dont know how far C1 is better, but I will stick with LR, too lazy to learn a new workflow... I must say I am really very pleased with my new M8, and find it easy to get what I am locking for from the M8 files. A good camera, wonderful lens, and a very great forum; do I need something more?
