PasMichiel Posted July 5, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) This one (what number is it?): As i mentioned in the Germany tour thread, leica is announceing a new twin charger for the M8. Christian Erhardt is traveling with us on this tour and mentioned this to me and i asked if i can publish this and post the images of it. So straight from Leica Hi Guy, Here is the info... We are pleased to introduce the Hahnel Twin Charger for the LEICA M8. This compact charger is a great travel companion and can be used in a vehicle. The Hahnel Twin Charger has many features including a fast charging capacity and a LCD display that indicates the charging process as well as other functions such as "battery full", "battery defect" and "over heating switch off". Some of the features of the Hahnel Twin Charger are: ** Modern style housing with slide-out charger cover, turning into a stand-up charger support ** Fast charger for 1 or 2 Lithium Ion Batteries ** Two charge control systems - one for each battery ** Battery overheating protection ** 2 LCD displays - one for each battery ** Charging time varies from less than 1 hour for 1 battery to approximately 2 hours for 2 batteries. This depends on the battery capacity. ** Multi-voltage switch mode power-supply 100 - 240 V for worldwide use. ** 12 V DC input with car lead included

Nicoleica Posted July 5, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2010 Hi, Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I think that this charger was cancelled. I searched around, and found several mentions of its demise. Example: M8 twin charger cancelled

Nicoleica Posted July 5, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 5, 2010 Sorry, I don't have any experience of that one. My personal choice would be to get a genuine Leica compact charger. Not the cheapest option, but probably the best.
doubice Posted July 5, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 5, 2010 Trouble with the Hähnel and Delkin aftermarket "compact" chargers is, that they require a separate power supply. That kind of defeats the compactness idea..... I would also recommend the original Leica charger (the new version of course - not the original brick that came with the M8). So that I don't have to carry extra cables for my chargers, I got a few of these: for PowerBook US Macbook iPhone Plug Apple iPod Charger - eBay (item 260530920121 end time Jul-28-10 17:47:13 PDT) They plug directly into the charger's 'figure 8' receptacle and are also available with Euro, UK and AUS connectors. Much more compact than cables and external power supplies! Best, Jan

I have a a drawer full of these Apple adaptors, but never came to the idea, to try them on anything other than Apple I have a special 15cm cable for my Leica chargers, that saves packing weight for travels, but the Apple adaptor looks interesting too. That's a great idea, certainly one I'd never thought of. Thanks a bunch for the posting. Always happy to share! Originally, I found the adapter in the local Apple store but, being a cheapskate, I did not want to buy the original Apple part (over $20.00 for a simple plug!) and spent about a month looking for its equivalent in local electronics stores, with no luck, just blank stares from behind the counter. One day I was looking for a spare charger for my wife's Canon G7 and to my great joy found an eBay seller, who was selling the charger with this adapter plug! I ordered the charger and four plugs immediately... Below are some photos to demonstrate how much space the plug adapter can save! The Pentax / Leica charger conversion project in the third photo was originally shown by Rich Cutler in this post: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/83090-finally-compact-battery-charger.html I am still working on mine - too many projects on the go........ vanhulsenbeek Posted July 8, 2010 Share #9 Posted July 8, 2010 Michiel, The new small Leica charger is your best buy, and it also has the 80% and 100% indications. Do not trust anything else. Same with batteries.
