Hello I'm new on this forum. Can somebody help me/give me some links:

 

-Is there a calibration procedure for MR/MC meters especially the MR with the 2 variable

resistors 10 kohm and 5 kohm?

 

-Is there a substitute available for the MC/MR photo cells?

Mick Feuerbacher mentions leaking mercury cells. Mercury cells are potentially horrible things. Just one cell thoughtlessly disposed of, can poison up to 5 cubic meters of soil. The glop that oozes out of them when discharged, can also do horrible things to electronics and other precision bits. I have a very dead Minox C as witness to this. Now that they have been officially out of production in most countries for some years, it is now unlikely that many people are still using them.

 

There is an issue with using the silver equivalents, in that the voltage comes out at around 6.1 - 6.2V for a 4 cell battery rather than the correct 5.6V. This may affect the reading on both older Leicameters and the older Minoxes, which don't have an internal voltage regulator. There used to be a small holder which took 4 x 386 silver cells and incorporated a voltage regulator but it does not seem to be available any more.

 

For those like me, who still use the older Minox C cameras, 5.6V mercury PX27 cells can still be bought in Vietnam but please do dispose of them in the disposal boxes available at many pharmacies and I would suggest taking them out of a camera/meter when not in regular use.
