Does any other M have same controls as M6 Millenium?

The M6 Millenium has what I consider the absolutely optimal setup: a large dial (which turns in what I consider the right direction), M3-style advance-lever and rewind, but M6 film loading.

I'm considering getting another body for b&w, and I'd like to duplicate the setup but I'm reluctant to get another Millenium because I can foresee mixing the two cameras up if I'm ever in real hurry. (I'd rather have a chrome camera for b&w).

Was there ever any other M with the same set of controls?

...since this is your absolutely optimal setup, get another Millenium and then talk to the good people at Camera Leather. They stock a plethora of custom coverings that should sufficiently address your requirements. It worked for me.

Thanks for the idea.

Maybe that'll be the way to go in the end, but I was hoping to not just duplicate cameras - which somehow takes away something from the 'uniqueness' of having a limited edition camera - and thought that maybe there was another edition or set-up that also had this constellation of controls.

Nearest I can get is an a la carte M7 with MP wind on lever, but has standard angled rewind.

Maybe if you speak to Leica...?

Here is what i just created in the configurator...

cheapest way to get there is to buy an m6ttl and have the lever changed by the customer service in solms (or a service point near you - maybe they have those levers there, or can order them from germany)

cost in solms was 100€.

Ah. Now that's one edition that genuinely never occurred to me.

Sadly, I think I was happier not knowing. :o

Thanks for the information though.

PS: But now I see you added an image. And there's the angled rewind! Relief! :)

I believe some of the limited editions that came out during the Millennium Edition period may have the same configurations.

Example - ICS Japanese edition, the olive green Jap Millennium.

The Dragon has the same configuration externally, but I believe it's using the old M3 style loading.

I also got the Millennium and much prefers it over a MP.

Thanks for all the replies. I was actually quite surprised that this particular configuration was pretty much unique. As I said, I'd hoped for a chrome equivalent.

On reflection, buying another Millenium feels like it somehow diminishes the emotional value of a limited edition camera.

We'll see, I must say I don't need another camera, by any means. Just felt it would be nice to have the opportunity to shoot b&w without sacrificing color.

As others have said, the aesthetic and practical combination inherent in the Black Paint M6 makes it the perfect M, as far as I'm concerned. Everything - right down to the detail of a black frame counter - can't be bettered imo.

Looks indeed like the ICS has the same configuration - essentially the same camera, but in an edition of only 200. I've already rubbed some paint from the Millenium advance lever, so maybe these very limited editions should be left to the collectors... :o

On the contrary, the ICS and Dragon are not as collectable as the Millennium despite fewer production nos. The prices are compatible.

Just use the camera man!!! I am using mine now without a half case and intend to brass my own original blackpaint M. Haha!

Could not a camera technician change the speed dial and rewind lever of a standard chrome 6 ttl or 7 to give you the configuration you desire. As someone with a almost immobile right thumb due to arthritis, the only lever rewind which suits me is the M4, which with its all brass gears, is very light and the angling tip helps as well. I know therefore why you feel that you have to have a particular configuration.

Hey don't worry - I'm using the Millenium non-stop and loving it - no half-case, and not worried in the least what happens to it (other than losing it, that is).

I simply looked at NewOldCamera and saw that the ICS they had was an extra 1000 euros over the price of the Millenium, and really pretty much in all respects the same camera.

I guess I was just trying to be polite in the way I said thanks for the help, but no thanks. :o

Anyways, no big deal - I guess I ought to draw the thread to a close before people get angry at me  It was sort of an idealistic daydream.

Wilson - Sorry to hear about your arthritis.

I just fell in love with this particular set-up - everything about it feels perfect.

We'll see, maybe I do end up getting another one.

Thanks for the help.
