beewee Posted June 19, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone experienced lens information showing up in their metadata when they shoot with uncoded lenses? I noticed that my 90mm ('thin') tele-elmarit II consistantly gives me the correct lens information even though it is not coded what so ever. It's odd since my 50mm/2.0 cron doesn't do this. Also, I've noticed that even when I'm switching between the 28mm/2.8 elmarit ASPH (coded) and the tele-elmarit (not coded) which calls up the same frame lines, the M8 knows that it is the 90mm tele-elmarit II and not the 28mm/2.8 ASPH when the tele-elmarit is mounted. The same doesn't hold true for my 50mm/2.0 summicron IV which is also uncoded but the M8 refuses to recognize the lens and does not embed any lens information into the metadata except for aperture. Advertisement Posted June 19, 2010 Posted June 19, 2010 Hi beewee, Take a look here Lens info without lens coding on the M8?!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted June 19, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 19, 2010 It's been seen many times before. It appears to be caused by a screw head in the mount that's in just the right place to fool the sensor.
luigi bertolotti Posted June 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 19, 2010 Confirm : typical of the "nano" Tele Elmarit, I do not remember to have seen this to happen with other lenses (not on mine, by sure).
beewee Posted June 19, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted June 19, 2010 Good to know! It's a shame that not all the older lenses come with built-in coding from the 70s. Does anyone know if the same "problem" exist on the M9?
bocaburger Posted June 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 19, 2010 My 21 Elmarit pre-ASPH came up as a 90. I had to put white paint over the screw to blind it to the sensor (later I also milled and painted the correct black coding for the lens).
