Advertisement Posted December 30, 2006 Posted December 30, 2006 Hi bradreiman, Take a look here new zealand cactus(?)-m8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted December 31, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 31, 2006 Brad - I believe it is just related to cactus (which makes sense in temporate Christ Church) -- a succulent. My mum used to call these "hens and chicks". Very nice, but the large, close "hen" being out of focus is distracting. It needs either more DOF or moving the OOF hen further out of the center of the frame.
azzo Posted January 2, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 2, 2007 You could also try i crop to this image Bradley. I'd try cropping this image slightly to the right of the in focus large succulent and from top to bottom. Practically half of what you have but much more pleasing to the eye, and as Stuart rightly says, the OOF plant is a distraction, IMHO. I'd try it out if i were you. Best Azzo. farnz Posted January 3, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 3, 2007 Brad, Stuart's right: this is a succulent whose common name is Saucer Plant because of the dish that the leaves form to direct moisture towards the stem. (Its Latin name is Aeonium undulatum subspecies "Pseudotabuliforme") This plant is all but a weed in the Sumner area, which includes Scarborough Hill, yet it has a beautiful pale green, jade-like colour. IMHO this image might benefit from colour, although I like the way that you've tried to direct the eye with shallow dof. Pete.
leicamann Posted January 4, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 4, 2007 No its not a cactus..its a succulent belonging to a huge plant family called "Sedum"...but judging by the branching this one belongs to its cousin family "euphorbia"..if you break a stem and there is a milky sap, then it belongs to the euphorbia family. I'll try to get its exact name, I haven't been a member of the Desert Plant Society for a number of years, so I am a bit rusty. Like the"film like"rendering here. Thanks for sharing Regards, Leicamann
