Dave - the original is utterly beautiful and - dare I say - calming to my eyes. I love it.

The edge enhanced version is great - in principle. I'm not quite sure why I am not completely taken by it, but I rather think that the edges of the fine structures and of the reflections of the ripples in the water distract me somewhat from the pleasantly organic shapes of the leaves. If so, a crop might help which rather concentrates on one or two plants might offer a different - perhaps also interesting - composition.

Thanks for showing the second version. One of these days, I might feel so bold as to do some experiments of my own along this line.

thanks all for the comments.

#1 captures pretty much the moment.

#2 is probably an outgrowth of my love of sci-fi and "what would this scene look like in an alternate universe?"

(the possibilities are endless :p)

i have a theory about that . . . techie or sci-fi or very abstract images don't generate emotion (like a natural flower image might) . . . you can't get warm and fuzzy with them . . . no matter how much you "like" them, then don't resonate our emotional frequencies . . . so we say "hmmmm, that's nice, that's interesting, that's intriguing, that's . . . " and we move on, because the full spectrum of emotions just ain't there, you know?
