wilyum Posted July 9, 2006 Share #21 Posted July 9, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) A great picture of a lovely place and a fine description to accompany all. Nice work, Andy! Do you use much insect repellant? Best regards, Bill

stunsworth Posted July 9, 2006 Share #22 Posted July 9, 2006 Bill, like myself Andy lives in the north of England. Apart from a few summer midges in certain areas it's normally too cold for biting insects - though if I've got this wrong I'm sure Andy will correct me :-)
arthury Posted July 9, 2006 Share #23 Posted July 9, 2006 The texture of the clouds is very attractive. This is one fine example when the grains add positively to the image. Come to think of it, it does have the XPan feel. Beautiful!

andybarton Posted July 10, 2006 Author Share #25 Posted July 10, 2006 Thanks for the kind comments folks. We get mosquitoes here - that bite - because there are a large number of still ponds within the marsh. Some years, the authorities spray against them, others they dredge the still ones to keep the water flowing. Other years, they do nothing. We don't wear insect repellent, though we do get bitten sometimes. Sitting out in the garden of an evening in still conditions in the summer, is not a good idea! hm1912 Posted July 10, 2006 Share #26 Posted July 10, 2006 Great photograph and story detail. I really enjoyed reading the background story and I found the photograph to be a great panorama. And I'm up for either idea Andreas.

Guest flatfour Posted July 10, 2006 Share #30 Posted July 10, 2006 Andy - That looks exactly like where I am going on the 22nd of July to see the Open at Hoylake. My son gave me the ticket for my birthday and when the course was described to me your picture looked just right. How far are you from the course ? My son gave me the ticket for my birthday and when the course was described to me your picture looked just right. How far are you from the course ? Funny you should say that It's walkable, if you like a walk. Indeed you can walk from the spot above, to the spot below (Liverpool in the background) passing the edge of the Hoylake course, without having to leave the water, if the tide is right. fotografr Posted July 10, 2006 Share #32 Posted July 10, 2006 Quaint and beautiful, Andy. I could easily live in a place like that. Unfortunately, my wife needs big city lights. I'm working on changing her mind, but haven't done it yet in over 30 years.
andybarton Posted July 10, 2006 Author Share #33 Posted July 10, 2006 And this one below is very close to the far end of the Hoylake course, which would be on the left of this shot. (I have broken my promise to myself not to show any photos that have been shown before. Darn! No more!) Welcome, dear visitor! lambroving Posted July 10, 2006 Share #36 Posted July 10, 2006 Andy, On my work monitor I like that last one best (very good framing) and can't recall seeing it before. Of course, Steve will now suggest you straighten that horizon! Keep posting old stuff if it's any good. Can't say what I've missed before..., and on this Forum you have a different audience anyway. andybarton Posted July 10, 2006 Author Share #37 Posted July 10, 2006 The horizon is straight, it's the river bank that's receding into the distance. Look at my wife - an upright woman if ever I saw one... New forum, new shots.

andybarton Posted July 10, 2006 Author Share #40 Posted July 10, 2006 Andy, do you know The Marsh Cat in Parkgate? Had an enjoyable lunch there a few months ago. Unfortunately for the bank balance, yes... Very good food, and a lovely Rioja for around £17... We regularly walk there in five minutes, and walk home in 10.
