tom0511 Posted June 10, 2010 Share #1  Posted June 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Place a noodle on a spoon, start to focus the camera (on the face) in the moment when the noodle starts falling down the spoon. Now you can measure the distance the noodle fell down and calculate the delay

tom0511 Posted June 10, 2010 Author Share #3 Â Posted June 10, 2010 So, this confirms it is too slow? lol. Â No, it just confirms you have to start focusing approx. 1 Sek. before the action starts and everything is fine
Dan States Posted June 10, 2010 Share #4  Posted June 10, 2010 No, it just confirms you have to start focusing approx. 1 Sek. before the action starts and everything is fine  Yep, just proves what junk the X1 is...The Nikon D3 would have not only focused on the noodle, it would have EATEN it. tom0511 Posted June 11, 2010 Author Share #9 Â Posted June 11, 2010 now serously, with a faster camera the noodle would have never fallen off the spoon so in this case the somewhat slower x1 made the situation.
leicashot Posted June 11, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted June 11, 2010 Guys lets face it, the X1 is really slow. Anyone who gets great action shots with it is either pre-focusing or having a hell of luck. It is impossible to react 'in the moment' and focus and shoot in time....unless the 'moment' is holding a long pose :-) Â But is isn't much faster than manually focusing a rangefinder at a moderate speed, so the same preempting techniques need to be employed. rennsport Posted June 12, 2010 Share #12 Â Posted June 12, 2010 Nice thread on a rather well documented subject. ;-) Â The X1 IS slow but if you know its limitation and know how to work around it, then it's less of a problem.
