RichardM8 Posted July 22, 2010 Share #141 Posted July 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) All SLRs with APS-C sensor (a lot) have the same sensor size. This isn't by any stretch of imagination an indication that their IQ is the same or even comparable... This is no different with compacts. From what I've seen around the web so far, the NEX 5 is a strong example of this.

Jelico Posted July 22, 2010 Share #142 Posted July 22, 2010 Who is interested in Nex, should take a look at this comparison Nex 3 test comparison - Nikkor adaptor - Leica adaptors - Kit Lens [imgs]: Sony NEX Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review speaks for itself... Danielsan Posted July 22, 2010 Share #143 Posted July 22, 2010 All SLRs with APS-C sensor (a lot) have the same sensor size. This isn't by any stretch of imagination an indication that their IQ is the same or even comparable the sensor size is not the only thing true but it is a major factor together with the lens. But for me also a big factor is the AA-Filter, some have none or weak AA-Filters, i like them much more. Who is interested in Nex, should take a look at this comparison Yes it shows that the lenses made for the NEX5 are weak compared to the Leica and Nikkor lens. WIth the Adapter and a decent lens the NEX5 gets nearly as clumy as a DSLR and only MF.
phancj Posted July 23, 2010 Share #144 Posted July 23, 2010 I think the lens is only a third of the equation, probably Sony's image processing algorithm is deficient too...
h00ligan Posted July 24, 2010 Share #145 Posted July 24, 2010 Alright, I am seeing some GOOD NEX shots now... I almost wonder if qc on the lenses is widely variable at this point. These are tourism shots someone posted... but I don't see anything to really pick apart on them. Anyone else want to point out if I am missing something. Dan States Posted July 24, 2010 Share #146 Posted July 24, 2010 You're not missing anything. I have one. The lens (16mm) is a heap of crap, but the rest of the camera is pretty good. Just LOUD. Leica should buy their LCD panels from Sony. Once decent RAW software runs the NEX files you will see better results. As a total package the X1 makes much better files at this point....if Sony makes a decent lens it would be a closer fight.

I find the kit zoom a bummer. The 16mm is ok, considering price. In camera jpegs. Welcome, dear visitor! JanCderidder Posted July 25, 2010 Share #149 Posted July 25, 2010 If I wanted a large sensor small sized camera for low light photography and wouldn't have 1500+ to spend on one the Sony might of been a good choice. I don't think it's the actual camera that ,makes the difference, it's the lens, this goes for DSLR's as well, a Nikon D90 with a kit lens won't make as good an image as a D90 with a 24-70 2.8 zoom lens ... or take Canon, Olympus, Sony etc. It's the lens that's expensive. Back in the days I had the choice of a 35 Summilux and a used M4 or a Elmar 50mm with an M6 .... I went for the used M4 and the lens I originally wanted And then last but not least, if people are happy with their Sony Nex 5's so be it, they are happy, I am happy for them that the're happy etc. etc. If everyone would have a similar attitude we would all live in a big and happy world..... ;-) Of to Sunday supper now .... mmmm I'm a happy guy :-)
Ecaton Posted July 25, 2010 Share #150 Posted July 25, 2010 You think so?... I understand where you come from. But what is the alternative, compact, large sensor, 24mm equiv? To my knowledge, there is none.

The first one show good reproduction and not too much distortion. But the second one is not quite impressive.
jankap Posted July 26, 2010 Share #153 Posted July 26, 2010 Isn´t possible to measure the IQ? All those quick produced comparisons don't convince me. In this case there are not even pictures of brickwalls(!). Lenses are produced according to tolerances (and other parameters of course). Narrower tolerances lead to higher prices, but to - in the mean - better IQ. The marketing departments decide, for which part of the market has to be produced. Narrow tolerances -> high mean quality + high price + low sales, but can still lead to enough profit. Jan

It will not make a mediocre design work better. These lenses are made with certain compromises - cost of materials, complexity of assembly, size, weight, versatility, speed, etc.
jankap Posted July 26, 2010 Share #155 Posted July 26, 2010 Generally my point is, that if I order 1000 gr. sugar and I get 901 gr., do I have the right to be angry then? Jan PS In the Leitax-Forum I found this one: This is the MR-Telyt 500/8 lens, a Minolta design made with the Leica quality standards
