cknobel Posted June 6, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) can you guys tell me what kind of straps you have on your M9? I personally dont fancy the strap delivered with the camera and would fancy one made of neoprene. Any ideas? Thanks.

ezc203 Posted June 6, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 6, 2010 I've used both Artisan+Artist* and Luigi straps, and my personal preference of straps is the Japanese A+A* ones. If you are in the US, you can easily order them from popflash. While Luigi's cases are exceptional, I think his straps are a little too rugid and thick. A+A* straps are very thin/soft and has a great lining that makes it very comfortable on your bare neck. Just my 2 cents.
adan Posted June 6, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 6, 2010 I'm using an R4 strap - one of a half-dozen I've collected over the years, long before I got Leica cameras. It felt really good on Nikon FM2's, and I've just recycled them from camera to camera. Not that different from the current M strap, except a bit wider and with a more substantial feel all around. Has a sliding shoulder pad instead of the molded-in pad of the current straps.
250swb Posted June 6, 2010 Share #5 Posted June 6, 2010 I don't like wide straps, or 'boutique' straps, because I like to wrap the strap around my hand/wrist, so I use the UpStrap version made for rangefinder cameras, and I put Leica strap rings on. Despite it looking a lot like the standard strap the knobbly pad really does grip and never slips off the shoulder. Steve
Philip Freedman Posted June 6, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 6, 2010 Confession time. I have almost as many straps as lenses (and camera bags). I bought an A+A strap but it was far too short for me. For wearing round the neck, I got Luigi to make me a couple of straps to my chosen length (one in black to use with dark clothes, one in brown to use with lighter clothes - to be less conspicuous). I also have an Upstrap which has a very clingly shoulderpad and is great for hanging over the shoulder - although I do that rarely now for safety reasons. The Leica strap with the shoulderpad stripped off is also quite soft and good for wearing round the neck. Philip
stunsworth Posted June 6, 2010 Share #7 Posted June 6, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use a wrist strap bought on eBay for 10 GBP or so. After using for a few months I prefer is to a neck strap. I bought one of Luigi's leather neck straps, and to be honest I don't think it offers any advantage over the standard strap. digbyhp Posted June 6, 2010 Share #9 Posted June 6, 2010 For cost-effective solution, recently got myself a Domke 'Gripper' strap, cheap (Aud20) with lug protectors and grippy rubber inner to the 1 inch wide neck bit.
Marty Posted June 6, 2010 Share #10 Posted June 6, 2010 Luigi's wrist strap. It is the only accessory that has been on from the start and stayed on.
rickp13 Posted June 6, 2010 Share #11 Posted June 6, 2010 i like to switch from neck to wrist to no strap from time to time, but without the fuss of threading O rings through the camera eyelets. luigi to the rescue with one of his thinner straps but with special clips (like chromed carabiner clips). he's done the testing with up to 12kg (i believe), so far so good - no incidents whatsoever. have a look at the photo below (from the leicatime website). maybe you'll like the clip solution? you can order his neck or wrist straps with the clips instead of rings. greetings from hamburg rick Welcome, dear visitor! winmore Posted June 6, 2010 Share #12 Posted June 6, 2010 My preference is the Gordy lug mount wrist strap with O-ring. Big choice for every taste at gordy's camera straps. Great people to deal with. Best Ron

andybarton Posted June 6, 2010 Share #16 Posted June 6, 2010 Gordy's wrist straps are very hard and tough. They are made out of boot leather, or something similar, and no amount of Nikwax would soften it up. I threw one away on Friday as it was just far too uncomfortable. There is now a beautiful, soft black leather one on the IIIf that I bought from David Stephens. Much better. Sorry Gordy.
Shootist Posted June 6, 2010 Share #17 Posted June 6, 2010 I use the one that came with my M8, that is on my M8 (Don't have & don't plan on having a M9). I just take the wider rubber part off and don't carry it around my neck, I do carry bandoleer style. Much more secure and I can swing it around to my back when I lean over. Andy, looking at David's web site that wrist strap looks identical to the one I bought on eBay. It's good to know that someone has them in stock as it took a few weeks for mine to arrive.
