Yes no more naked lights screaming across the frame. That is history for sure so the hardware fix did the trick no question in my mind on that. I know the vertical banding looks horrible to many folks but really it is a timing issue betwen Chanel A and B in the processing engine and should be a simple fix. profiles and Cyan cast is really the biggies that we will have to concur after that V banding is cut out. The other rare one is the streak that stops half way. That one is weird and still trying to figure that one out. One more is the start up from sleep mode to get the circuits going so we don't get that streak that a few have gotten on that first frame. Not perfect and still has a few warts but overall pretty good. Most of these there is a workaround until things settle down. The bad part is we got caught in the holiday season and that has slowed progress. I know born optimist.:)

really great, guy!

especially picture #1

I think the M8 pictures have a very special quality:

something inbetween digital and analog. it´s difficult for me to bring this in words, a higher quality than everything i have seen in analog technics but not so clinical as digital photography normally.

regards, stefan

Guy, the second above, orange scarf, is that the 50mm?

Nice pictures and how glad I am that I did an M8, too.

Guy, you mention that you think at CV 15mm is important to have in the bag. Have you ever shot with the 35 1.2 Nokton on an M8. I've been wanting to look at one but have heard conflicting stories. One person has used with no known problems and has had excellent results. A dealer tells me that he cannot get it coupled to an M8 so that it works at 1.2 and another person tells me that it is stiff focusing when you set at 1.2 and yet another person says it works fine. Anyone have any comments is appreciated.

I think for the price tag on the 15mm at 400 dollars with adapter it is a great little lens to have in the bag. The Nokton i would ask Sean about since he is mor familar with those.

The scarf shot was the 50 lux. Just love that lens. reason i keep questioning myself about a nocti although different the lux just has it all

Guy,

You have to stop this. I canceled my M8 order and said, "Wait until Photokina 2008." Now you have me thinking, "Where did I bury those Maple Leafs in 1999, getting ready for Y2K." :D

Seriously, I'm having second thoughts.

John pretty hard to deny yourself of one of these when it gets all fixed and better

What i found extremely interesting in all of this was not one shot in 600 or so did i see any issues except the CA in a couple. I mean besides me blowing shots and all that but NO vertical banding, no streaks and such and really used it like most people would AWB on A mode except when the meter could not handle it well i went to manual which is normal. i thought for sure i would get V banding on a lot of these . all lenses had the B+W 486 filter except the 15mm and i never took them off in anything. My personal biggest problem is something i don't come across very often if ever is camera shake , my DMR i can go a 1/2 second and be dead on. The M8 should be easier and what i concluded is the three step button on the M8 is throwing me off a little i am punching down than squeezig it through the stops when i am not thinking about it. It's more me than the M8 and i am used to a electronic release. This is part of retraining the brain to shoot with a manual button again. Even for a guy with a lot of experience behind many types of camera's I have to retrain myself. Reason i said all this stuff takes time to get into a new camera. Being one with the camera in hand

Hey Guy,

This is the first I've heard about this which is good news. It seems that it'll be an easy firmware fix rather than having to send it back for another hardware fix.

Guy,

If you ever get the chance, do more B&W of that skating rink; there's something great lurking in there.

Are you serious? I see lots of whiteouts and BTW nothing that couldn't have been done with any other APS-C cam (which of course is true for most pictures presented in internet size).

I wonder if this guy is serious? I mean, there's detail in the black coat of the woman on the right...The little light on top is meaningless...

Got set of shots; your daughter has a nice eye, too...

Everything is raw and it has been C1 but playing with Raw also but i am getting nice results now from Camera Raw. M8 files don't need a heck of alot besides a good WB and than to correct for the cyan/yellow cast. One trick i found in all the programs with the IR filter on is lower the Kelvin temp right off the bat by about 400 degrees . Than for camera raw i went into the luminance and lowered the red. is that what you were after

great images.

Guy, did you use filters?

I use filters for 28mm and longer and thats fine for me.

WIth the 24mm and 21mm I am undecided. Should I accept cyan corners which I have to pp or should I accept IR-contamination?

How much do you find the IR-sensitivity a problem shooting landscapes (when using no filters, like with the 15mm CV)?

cheers and happy new year, Tom

Tom I have my rubbers on. LOL

Everything has a IR filter on except the 15mm and i just leave them on for everything. not going to play the on for this and off for that. Once we can get the profiles dialed in it should be perfect and honestly i have found a few tricks that seem to work pretty good like i mentioned earlier. Pano Tools right now can correct that cyan cast for the corners until either we get firmware that can correct that or Raw processors that can add the maenta in the corners , like Acr does for vignetting but add color would be great. But the 15mm and outside shots there is magenta but even outside landscape shots are up to personal taste also , not like you have to nail a skin tone in them, so more forgiving there

can you guide me to where I find panotool? (website or anything)? My 21 and 24 do not see the light because of the cyan corners.

thanks, tom
