Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted December 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well i spent my holiday in NY with about 15 family members in Ny and of course the M8 was in tow. I selected the CV 15, 21 asph, 28 cron , 50 lux and the 90 elmarit and one M8 as my travel package. One day i just went with the 28mm and the camera. the weather was damp and cold and overcast most of the time but there was some sun on one day. I shot almost every ISO there is and some i kept as color and some i did modified B&W. tried to induce some of the issues also and ran into NONE just doing everyday shooting. of course i did not put a lot of effort in shooting either, this was a fun trip and did not want totake away from my family. I spend a lot of time in my office and shooting so my time was there's and it was nice to hang with my kids. Anyway the images are just some fun shots for you folks to see that the M8 does work well in a lot of bad places with crappy light. My only issue that i seen was a little blooming from a 5 to 7 stop sky to the street stuff. I have more to process and post and will add them today . I also gave Leica about 200 raw images to scour also for any of the known issues that we are seeing. the other only issue is the cyan cast from the IR filters which version 1.10 is being worked on to compensate for that but filters on in every shot except the 15mm. My daughter did my portrait on the first one 28 cron. First time with a RF camera , she did pretty darn good on this one Welcome, dear visitor! osera Posted December 29, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 29, 2006 My daughter did my portrait on the first one 28 cron. First time with a RF camera , she did pretty darn good on this one Wow, I didn't realize the 28 had such distortion at the edges. Oh wait, that's really what you look like isn't it? The colors and DR are great here, as expected. Did you use some post processing NR on the 1250 shot?
osera Posted December 29, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 29, 2006 By the way, with the high density of P&S cameras there, how many people were "impressed" with your M8? (I find that it's much more stealth than walking around with the DMR or 5D.)

(I find that it's much more stealth than walking around with the DMR or 5D.) I was barely even noticed. i even walked around sometimes with it on my neck like a tourist would do. When i did get looked at it was the camera folks that were looking at it becuase it was what it is , small

carstenw Posted December 29, 2006 Share #14 Posted December 29, 2006 Guy, the 90 Elmarit shots don't seem to have the snap of some of the other lenses. Is this lens dead-on?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 29, 2006 Share #15 Posted December 29, 2006 The 90mm elmarit is a nice lens but not anywhere near my 75mm cron and i would have taken that instead but was at leica for a repair and coding. I dropped it on a cement floor and sent it in with my 35mm 1.4 to get coded also.

Guest umb Posted December 29, 2006 Share #17 Posted December 29, 2006 The colors and DR are great here, as expected. Are you serious? I see lots of whiteouts and BTW nothing that couldn't have been done with any other APS-C cam (which of course is true for most pictures presented in internet size). Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 29, 2006 Share #18 Posted December 29, 2006 Well your talking about a 7 or more stop between the sky and the ground shots of people. that is a big swing. Like i said the light sucked. the cab shot does have a lot of DR. if you can find a P&S that would handle that than buy it because i know of no camera that would handle that one like a DMR or M8. wparsonsgisnet Posted December 29, 2006 Share #19 Posted December 29, 2006 Guy, I'm with you on the last shot with the 50. You can almost touch the skin. I agree that it's a great lens -- and how cool that it's an almost-portrait lens on the M8. Regards,
fnuernberger Posted December 29, 2006 Share #20 Posted December 29, 2006 Thank you - again - Guy for your report! How did you resize / sharpen for the web? The files themselves seem big enough in order not to suffer from JPG artefacts...
