The M8 in New York

Guy, beyond all of the endless DR, IR and rebate debates, what I find intriguing is watching others adapt to the utility and personalized feel of rangefinder shooting. And, to do it with all of the convenience and flexibility of the digital realm.

I see that style in quite a few of the photographs that you've shown here. It is becoming one with the crowd and reacting to the ebb and flow of its perspective.

For me, that is why the M8 is a big hit with me, because it personally allows me the flexibility to think and react differently than if I was carrying a large dslr around my neck (and I've done so). It's certainly not perfect, but it's a giant step forward and a blast to use (with the right workarounds of course).

Nice photos. :)

Kurt

I for one would be eager to hear about your B&W developing workflow... and any feelings about C1 vs JFI (their new Film B&W profiles look interesting) vs Raw Developer. The latter would seem to be a reason to switch back to Mac for my M8 processing having seen some examples.

I hope is work to upload. I take foto which is only one I see got cyan corner (see to window box at up left also up right, also strit on low right) and I fix up in Panorama Tools. I use it +8 red and +8 blue, oba easy play with this numbers if like it different (mabe mine scrin got differents from your). This take one secont. After find it right numbers, this always same for this lens will be.

Thanks Blasco this is one area i want C1 to work on is adding the parameters to the program to clear the cyan cast, this would be almost automatic when processing . or do it in the firmware which i believe leica is working on and in the menu options also. This really is the one area left for work to be done besides the firmware issue on the vertical band which is really just tweaking it better . But for now Pano tools looks like it can work good just need to get it and setup all your lens parameters from 35mm wider

I was installed long time before, I member was no problem. Is plugin to Photoshop find it in <<Filters>>. Open up you got list of many, you need it one calls <<Radial Luminance>>. Next door you see bottom calls <<Options>>. This you clik than you got scrin shows R B G with next door window. Inside you can put any one number. Put just number you got + , oba put - and you got negatif this colour. Cyan make from red and blue, so you need put some + to both. Other I thing mabe you can put negatif to grin and blue, just I never did like this.

If is will be possibility do this ora C1 ora firmware fotos which lens did not to has 6bit than is good. This mean C1 ora M8 must to have list of possibility lens. I thing can not to expected Leica put inside for lens except Leica, oba C1 is have to be possibility fotografer make himself customable action. If this do not happens, is not end of the worald becaus Panorama Tools is works good. Just fotografer must to do for each one lens like group.

All raws and in all but the last two in Raw converter. The last two were C1 . i am going back and forth on programs. I love raw developer for the B&W stuff. I like the tones that i can get , looks like a nice version of sepia or platunion. Using channel mixer to do that in Raw Developer

Red plus 24

Green plus 43

Blue plus 22

Than play with the adjustments brightness, shadows and midtones to control the depth of it. Playing around with channel mixer you can get all sorts of different color tones . i justhappen to like this look in this series

I think we will see this control both from Leica in the firware 1.10 but c1 with version 4.0 they are rumured to have this control. but your right Pano tools we just need tomake a profile for each of our lenses below 35mm.

BTW Kurt i completely agree with your comments. i am finding RF shooting a hell of a lot of fun. it feels different

Fun series Guy. I see you've been down to Trinity Wall Street :-) I'm a native New Yorker exiled to California so I always enjoy N.Y. shots.

The more I look at M8 shots the more I am convinced that the quality is akin to something in-between film and digital. The M8 seems to produce a quality of image that is unique, to me a perfect blend of film-like pictures with digital resolution.

Guy,

Thanks so much for this, as usual for you, generous thread.

I didn't understand the following comment. "My only issue that i seen was a little blooming from a 5 to 7 stop sky to the street stuff."

Is blooming the same as "streaking" or "Banding?"

What is "5 to 7 stop."

Glad you had a good time. Makes me want to go the NY.

Thanks,

Mitchell

Mitchell it is in the tree branches and i am picking it up in this pure overblown sky becuase i am exposing for the ground level which is much much darker so the sky is getting blown out but the branches are blooming or CA. Here is a full image than a crop . see the purple or magenta fringing. Now in ACR this can be controlled. This features need to be in C1 in there next version. This is somewhat common and i have only seen this so far in the 28mm cron but this maybe worth a test also. leica is very good at CA but this is really pushing the lens and maybe sensor bloom also.

Yes i am getting nervous she really liked the M8 and the little canon P&S she has may be on it's way out. LOL

Need to check my camera bags when i go to bed at night , she maybe borrowing it. LOL

I gave her a 5 minute lesson on focusing the RF camera just before that shot. Look out Anne L , we may have a new female superstar on our hands. LOL

yeah, guy, i find that thin bare tree branches agianst a bright sky are one of the most difficult things to capture consistently. a true test for any camera.

and thanks for posting the shots of your new york photo safari!
